MODEL 504 – CHECKING THE OIL IN THE GEAR CHAMBER:
Disconnect tool from power source.
1. Place sander on a level surface
2. Remove the lower oil plug from right side of sander.
3. Ensure that oil is level with bottom of this hole.
4. If oil is required, remove upper oil plug and add a small amount of
PORTER-CABLE SPECIAL OIL #803442 (S.A.E. 90 Gear Oil).
5. Repeat steps two through five until oil level is correct. Let any surplus
oil run out before replacing plugs.
MODEL 504 – CHECKING THE OIL IN THE GEAR CHAMBER:
Disconnect tool from power source.
1. Place sander on a level surface
2. Remove oil plug from right side of sander.
3. Ensure that oil is level with bottom of hole.
4. If oil is required, remove oil fill plug from rear of housing (near trigger
switch) and add a small amount of PORTER-CABLE SPECIAL OIL
#803442 (S.A.E. 90 Gear Oil).
5. Repeat steps two through five until oil level is correct. Let any surplus
oil run out before replacing plugs.
ALL MODELS
Lubricate chain case every six
months, or at least once a month if
sander is in constant use, as
follows:
Disconnect tool from
power source.
1. Lay machine on its right side and
remove cover as shown in Fig. 8.
2. Clean and repack chain case,
to about one-half its capacity with
PORTER-CABLE SPECIAL GREASE
#874809. Do not over fill.
DRIVE CHAIN CARE
Model 503 - Replace the chain if the chain strikes the case.
Model 504 – When chain becomes loose, check the chain tension spring
and replace if necessary.
All Models – Replace the chain when the chain links become loose on
the pins.
BRUSH INSPECTION AND LUBRICATION
For your continued safety and electrical protection, brush inspection and
replacement on this tool should ONLY be performed by an AUTHORIZED
PORTER-CABLE SERVICE STATION or a PORTER-CABLE/DELTA
FACTORY SERVICE CENTER.
