Beech and oak dusts are especially detrimental
to health. Therefore, work only with dust extrac-
tion.
Sawing Plastic (GKS 55 CE)
Note: When sawing plastic, especially PVC, long
spiral chips are formed that can be electrostati-
cally charged. This can clog the sawdust ejector
17 and cause the retracting blade guard 13 to
jam. It is best to work with dust extraction.
Guide the switched on power tool against the
workpiece and carefully start the cut. Continue
the cut with low feed and without interruption,
so that the saw teeth do not gum up too quickly.
Sawing Non-ferrous Metals (GKS 55 CE)
Note: Use only a sharp saw blade that is suitable
for non-ferrous metals. This ensures a clean cut
and prevents blade binding.
Guide the switched on power tool against the
workpiece and carefully start the cut. Continue
the cut with low feed and without interruption.
When sawing profiles, always begin the cut from
the narrow side; when sawing U-profiles, never
start the cut from the open side. Support long
profiles in order to avoid blade binding and kick-
back of the power tool.
Sawing Light Building Materials (Materials
with Mineral Content) (GKS 55 CE)
When sawing light building materials, ob-
serve the statutory provisions and the rec-
ommendations of the material suppliers.
Light building materials may only be sawn dry
and when applying dust extraction. Always work
with the guide rail 29 (accessory).
The vacuum cleaner must be approved for the
extraction of masonry dust. Bosch provides suit-
able vacuum cleaners.
Sawing with Parallel Guide (see figure D)
The parallel guide 12 enables exact cuts along a
workpiece edge and cutting strips of the same
dimension.

Loosen wing bolt 9 and slide the scale of the
parallel guide 12 through the guide in the base
plate 15. Adjust the desired cutting width as the
scale setting at the respective cutting mark 11
or 10; see Section "Cutting Marks". Tighten
wing bolt 9 again.
Sawing with Auxiliary Guide (see figure E)
For sawing large workpieces or straight edges, a
board or strip can clamped to the workpiece as
an auxiliary guide; the base plate of the circular
saw can be guided alongside the auxiliary guide.
Sawing with Guide Rail (see figures F–H)
The guide rail 29 is used to carry out straight
cuts.
The adhesive coating prevents the guide rail
from slipping and protects the surface of the
workpiece. The coating of the guide rail allows
the circular saw to glide easily.
For sawing at a right angle, the circular saw can
be placed directly onto the guide rail 29. Fasten
the guide rail 29 with suitable clamping devices,
e. g., screw clamps, on the workpiece in such a
manner that the narrow leg of the guide rail 29
faces toward the saw blade.
The guide rail 29 must not extend beyond the
face side of the workpiece where the cut is to
be started.
The guide-rail adapter 32 is required for bevel
cuts with the guide rail 29. The guide-rail adapt-
er 32 is mounted in the same manner as the par-
allel guide 12.
The rubber lip on the guide rail acts as a splinter
guard that prevents fraying or tearing out of the
surface when sawing wooden materials. For
this, the teeth of the saw blade must face direct-
ly against the rubber lip.
The following work steps are required for exact
cuts using the guide rail 29:
– Place the guide rail 29 on to the workpiece
projecting lightly over the side. Pay attention
that the side with the rubber lip faces to the
workpiece.
