The Bebax orthopaedic bootee has been prescribed to your newborn for the
treatment of incorrect positioning of the foot.
Bebax bootee is a brace made in leather with two internal structures in injected
plastic, padded and joined together by a multidirectional joint.
Bebax allows progressive correction of congenital forefoot deformities in all three
space planes.
Indications:
Metatarsus varus or metatarsus adductus. Talus Valgus feet. Talus feet or Valgus feet.
Residual forefoot varus after treatment of clubfoot. Pes
supinatus (varus feet).
How to use BEBAX:
•
The correction obtained by Bebax is comparable to the correction obtained
from plaster casts. However, Bebax treatment allows removal of the device for
examination, bathing and exercise. Also, with Bebax, the problems of breakdown
and foot stiffness are less likely.
•
The fitting and adjustment of the Bebax bootee should be realized by the doctor
or orthopaedic technician.
•
It is important not to over-correct. If corrected slowly and gradually, you will
get faster results.
•
Do not over-tighten the screws to avoid damaging the joint.
•
During the first month of treatment, your doctor will ask you to make regular
office visits to control the progress of the treatment and to make necessary
adjustments.
•
In order to prevent relapses, it is advisable to keep the use of Bebax for about
two weeks after the pathology reduced.
How to fit BEBAX:
•
The Bebax bootee should be used with a thin cotton sock, which you have cut in
the toe area, so you can check the colour of the baby's toes (figure 1). Check the
circulation of the toes each time you place the bootee (figure 2).
•
Place the baby's heel at the back of the Bebax bootee. While holding the heel in
place, hold the ankle of the child as shown on (figure 3A).
•
Then place the baby's toes into the front part of the bootee. Be sure that the
heel remains snug (figure 3B).
•
Pass the toe strap through the buckle and fasten while holding the toes (figure
3C).
•
Do not change the correcting position realised by your doctor (figure 4).
•
A loose fitting Bebax may slow down the correction. Do not, therefore, hesitate
to make the Bebax fit fairly snug.
* For the larger size (sizes 10,5 - 11,5 - 12,5 and 13,5), pass the strap through the
slit and band provided for it (figure 5). While holding the ankle with your thumb,
tighten and fix this strap firmly, then fasten the ankle strap.
