WARNING:
• Read, understand, and carefully follow the safety precautions and operating instructions
for the press, pump, and cylinder. Most problems are caused by incorrect assembly,
operation, or maintenance.
• If the operator cannot read English, Spanish, or French, safety precautions and operating
instructions must be read and discussed in the operator's native language.
• Keep these safety precautions near the press at all times.
• The owner of the press is responsible for the press being installed and operated
according to federal (OSHA), state, and local safety standards.
• The press operator, and anyone within sight of the press, must wear eye protection
that meets ANSI Z87.1 and OSHA standards.
• Locate the press on a smooth, solid, level surface.
• Locate the press in an isolated area, or shield the press, to minimize danger to others.
• No alterations shall be made to the press. Do not weld or attach any guards to the
press.
• Do not exceed the maximum capacity of the press or components used in the system.
• Keep hands out of the work area during a pressing operation.
• Avoid off-center loads. Work pieces must be well supported and aligned so the cylinder's
force is straight, and parts being pressed cannot slip out or break.
• It is impossible for the manufacturer to provide practical "all-purpose" shielding because this
is a general purpose press that can be used in many different ways. The owner of the press
must provide shielding that is practical and necessary for each application. Some protection
is provided by wrapping the piece in a protective blanket before applying pressure. (Protective
blankets are offered in the OTC catalog.)
RAISING AND LOWERING THE BOLSTER: A winch and cable assembly support the bolster
when the bolster support pins are not in place.
• Bolster support pins MUST be installed correctly to prevent
injury. Insert the pins completely through the bolster and the
front and back uprights so the spring pin in the support pin
touches the bolster.
• To prevent accidental slippage, bolster support pins must be in
place and all cables slack before starting a pressing operation.
Stay out from underneath the bolster.
• Remove the work piece before moving the bolster either up or down.
• When lowering the bolster: Place one support pin all the way through each the front and the
back upright in the highest hole under the bolster that will not interfere with the new bolster
position. Remove hands from the support pins after the pins are in place.
• When raising the bolster: Leave the support pins in place until the bolster is raised to its new
position. Remove hands from the support pins after the pins are in place.
• Inspect the entire length of the lifting cables every three months at minimum, and replace cables
that appear frayed, worn, or crushed. The cables must run on the pulleys smoothly and easily,
and the pulleys must turn freely. Regular cable inspections and maintenance must be done to
help prevent accidental cable breakage.
