Operating Instructions
The engineering Misuse of the quick clamping column
The quick clamping column operates in
accordance with the clamping principle,
i.e. the greater the force that is acting on
the inner tube, the greater the locking
force of the system. The quick clamping
system has the wedge designed as a
knurled shaft. This makes it possible to
perform infinitely variable and to-the-milli-
metre precision work, while the inner tube
is extended and retracted
. There are cross holes in the
inner tube of the support, so that it is pos-
sible to secure the load against uninten-
ded lowering by inserting the accompany-
ing bolt into the quick clamping system at
So as to guarantee lasting and proper
operation, you should clean the inner tube
at regular intervals, e.g. with a rag soa-
ked in petrol, and then grease it. The
inner tube is greased at most at three sur-
faces: the side at which the knurled shaft
is located must not be greased. Do not
grease the toothed parts, but only the run-
ning surfaces of the knurled shaft. An
ordinary grease may be used for grea-
sing. When the equipment is used proper-
ly, the only part subject to wear and tear
becomes excessive, it must be replaced.
Give the setting of the safety lever a regu-
lar check. Depending on the wear and
tear of the inner tube, the grub screw must
be reset in such a way that the safety
lever cannot fail to catch.
the nearest hole.

Quick Clamping Column
Considerations of safety make it necessa-
ry to point out that the following specifica-
tions must be observed:
• the quick clamping column must be
used only on a firm and stable base;
• when replacing individual components,
only original parts must be used;
• the quick clamping column is intended
only for handling vertical forces;
• the load which is to be handled should
be secured horizontally;
• the inner tube must be changed if it is
bent or if it has buckled owing to
excess load in the area of the engage-
ment of the knurled shaft;
• the maximum load of 500 kg must not
be exceeded;
• never use the quick clamping column
for supporting vertical loads without
inserting a safety bolt into the hole of
the inner tube which lies nearest to the
actuating mechanism. If the quick clam-
ping system is unintentionally released,
there is otherwise nothing to prevent the
load from falling;
• should the spring of the quick clamping
column fail for any reason, the quick
clamping column can no longer be
used;
• it is not permissible to extend the quick
clamping column, since there is then the
risk of the inner tube buckling to the
side;
• the quick clamping column must not be
used as a lever;
• no holding devices of any kind what-
soever may be welded on.
