37. Turn the wheel over, and place it on a flat surface, tak
ing care not to scratch or damage the wheel.
38. Install the screw (1) retaining the speed control
switches to the right steering wheel spoke.
39. Install the screw (2) retaining the audio control
switches to the left steering wheel spoke.
40. Install the two screws (3) retaining the trim piece to the
lower steering wheel spoke.
CAUTION: If the steering wheel is excessively offcen
ter while driving, outside of Chassis specifications, in
advertent ESC activations may occur on a vehicle so
equipped.
41. Align the spline on the steering wheel hub to the col
umn shaft, then install the steering wheel (5).
42. Slide the steering wheel damper (4) over the shaft.
43. Guide the air bag connectors (1) through the hole in
the center of the steering wheel.
44. Install a NEW retainer bolt (3) and tighten to 75 N∙m
(55 ft. lbs.).
45. Connect all electrical connectors (2).
46. Position the Driver AirBag (DAB) (2) and floating horn
switch (1) unit close enough to the steering wheel to
reconnect the electrical connections to the back of the
airbag housing.
47. Reconnect the steering wheel wire harness connector
(4) to the floating horn switch connector on the back
of the switch.
48. Reconnect the wire connectors (5) to the airbag infla
tor connector receptacles by pressing straight in on
the connector insulator. Be certain to engage each
keyed and colorcoded connector to the matching con
nector receptacle. You can be certain that each con
nector is fully engaged in its receptacle by listening
carefully for a distinct, audible click as the connector
latches snap into place.
49. Carefully position the DAB and floating horn switch
unit into the steering wheel hub. Be certain that none
of the steering wheel wiring is pinched between the
airbag housing or the horn switch and the steering wheel armature.
