Diagnostic-Otoscopes
Before using the HEINE Diagnostic-Otoscope read these instructions carefully
and keep them in a safe place for future reference.
In accordance with local regulations this product should be
disposed of as an electronic device separately.
Safety information
Range of applications: The HEINE Diagnostic-Otoscope is used for the
examination of the external ear and for general non-invasive examination,
including nasal examination.
Safety in use: Use only handle or power sources which are specifically designed
for medical use should be used. The HEINE Diagnostic-Otoscope should only be
inserted into the ear when a tip or speculum is fitted. Pressure should be applied
with great care when doing pneumatic testing.
Warning: The spreadable nasal speculum must be used with care in order to
avoid damage to the nostril which could be caused by excessive opening of the
jaws.
Specula
Reusable ear-specula and nasal specula are attached to the Otoscope so that
the peg engages in the bayonet slit. A twist to the right ensures that they are
firmly located.
Disposable ear specula can be push-fitted to the otoscope.
General illumination: The HEINE Diagnostic-Otoscope can be used with or
without speculum or tip for general illumination of e.g. the oral cavity or skin.
Avoid contact with sensitive or damaged skin.
Tip-adaptor
By means of the tip-adaptor, AllSpec disposable tips can be used with the
HEINE Diagnostic-Otoscope:
•
Fit the adaptor to the otoscope so that the pin locates in the bayonet
connector. Rotate clockwise to lock in position.
Fit the AllSpec tip to the adaptor, so that the internal cam locates in the slit
•
in the body of the adaptor and secure by gently rotating the tip clockwise.
Spreadable nasal speculum
This speculum is held in place in the instrument head by a double-sided metal
clamp. This can be adjusted by bending it carefully to ensure a firm fit in the
head.
Magnification Optics
The swivel lens which is attached to the otoscope gives approx. 3,5 x magni-
fication. In the closed position, pneumatic tests can be made by means of
insufflator.
Changing the bulb
Please note: The performance of this instrument can only be guarantied if
genuine HEINE bulbs are used.
Remove the specula and pull the shield off the bulb.
•
Unscrew the bulb.
•
Ensure that a bulb of the correct voltage with regard to your handle or
•
transformer is screwed into place.
Replace the shield. This reduces stray light and reflections from the inside
•
of the specula and should always be fitted.
Sterilization and Cleaning
Instruments can be gas-sterilized, although occasional cleaning with non-
aggressive cleaning agents is usually sufficient. Plastic specula made of

solutions and can be boiled. They can also be sterilized as often as desired
up to 140 °C.
