• Clean the crumb tray frequently to prevent a risk
of fire or malfunctioning. Do not use the appliance
for foods which may drip or leak filling when
heated.
Accumulation of foreign matter of this kind is unhy-
gienic and can create a risk of fire or malfunctioning.
• Never force slices of bread into the bread slot.
The food must fit into the toaster easily.
• Do not toast buttered bread.
• Uneven toasting is the result of uneven thickness
of the slice of bread.
• Never pull on the power cord to unplug the appli-
ance.
• Make sure the appliance is unplugged before per-
forming any cleaning or maintenance work.
• Use only original spare parts and accessories ap-
proved by the manufacturer to ensure product
safety.
• Remove all packaging and protections from the
toaster before using it for the first time.
• Work the toaster without any bread in it the first
time you use it, to heat up the elements and burn
off any chemical residues or dust which may have
accumulated on the appliance in the factory.

IMPORTANT: the first time you use the toaster, oper-
ate it for at least 5 minutes with no bread in it. This will
allow the appliance to burn off oil and dust accumu-
lated in the factory.
• Place the appliance on a stable surface.
• Make sure that the crumb tray (D) is correctly as-
sembled in its place.
• Unwind the power cord and plug it into a suitable
socket.
• Insert slices of bread and turn the temperature con-
trol (G) to the desired position. A higher number will
result in darker toast.
• Press the bread rack lever (H) down until it clicks
into the bottom position.
• It will click into position only if the toaster is
plugged in.
• When the toasting cycle has been completed, the
toaster will automatically expel the slices of toast.
To stop toasting before completion, simply press
Stop.
When finished using the toaster, unplug it, wait for it to
cool down then clean it and put it away.

• Toasting cooks and dries bread. Different types of
bread have different moisture contents, and there-
fore require different toasting times.
• If your bread is slightly dry, set the temperature
control to the lowest settings.

• If using fresh or whole-wheat bread, set the tem-
perature control to the highest settings.
• Bread with a highly irregular surface (such as Eng-
lish muffins) requires the highest setting.
• Thick slices (including bagels) require a longer
toasting time, in some cases much longer, as
more water has to evaporate.
• Particularly thick slices may even need two toast-
ing cycles.
• When toasting bread containing raisins and simi-
lar additions, remove raisins from the outside of
the slice before toasting it, so that they will not
fall into the toaster and stick to the grating pro-
tecting the heating elements.
• To toast a single slice of bread, set the tempera-
ture control to one of the lowest positions. The
toaster is designed to heat the entire volume of
two slices; reduce toasting time to avoid burning
a single slice.
• Pastries and croissants: be careful when toasting
pastries and croissants as the filling can become
very hot before the outer surfaces are toasted.
Cleaning and maintenance
Always make sure that the appliance is unplugged
and has cooled down before cleaning the toaster.
Do not use abrasive cleansers.
Wipe the outside of the toaster with a damp cloth
and dry it well. If you wish to use liquid detergent, ap-
ply it to the cloth, not the appliance.
To remove crumbs inside the toaster, pull out the re-
movable crumb tray and wipe it with a damp cloth.
Put it back in. Never use the toaster without the
crumb tray.
To remove any remaining bread crumbs from the
toaster, hold it upside-down and shake it gently.
Never put a hard metal utensil or a pointed object
into the toaster slots, as this could create a hazard
for the user and damage the appliance.
