Installation
The timers are easily mounted in a DIN standard cut-out 45.5mm x
45.5mm, by removing the collar with the fixing screws, sliding the unit
into the panel, then replacing the collar and pushing it up to the back of
the panel as far as it will go, finally tightening it into place with the
screws. A 'Free socket' (RS Stock No. 402-721) may then be used to
make electrical connections to the timer.
Alternatively, the 11 pin base may simply be plugged into a surface
mounted relay socket. (See Figure 1 for wiring details).
Switch Selection to 50Hz or 60Hz
The selection switch for 50Hz or 60Hz is on top of the body of the timer
and adjustable by means of a screwdriver in the frequency selection
slot.
Operation
The timer starts at the preset point and counts down to zero. To start
timing both the motor and the clutch coil must be energised. However,
each supply may be switched, with the other continuous, to effect
control. With the switch in the clutch coil supply circuit, interrupting the
supply will stop timing and the timer resets to the preset point. With the
switch in the motor supply circuit, interrupting the supply will stop timing
but the timer will stay at the point it had reached prior to the switch off.
The latter mode is ideal for cumulative time delay applications.
When the clutch is energised, the instantaneous contacts change over
and with the motor running the white pointer moves down towards zero.
On the upper time ranges eg. 60 hours, the movement is almost
imperceptible. The 'MOTOR ON' indicator may be used to provide
evidence of this movement provided that the control switch is in the
motor supply circuit.
When zero is reached the delayed contacts change over, the drive
disengages and motor continues to run. To reset the timer to the preset
value the clutch coil supply circuit must be disconnected. On resetting,
the pointer spring returns to the preset value indicated by a red cursor
line on the scale which points to the set time when the white pointer
moves).
This disconnection may be momentary, in the case when timer control
is in the motor supply circuit, and may be effected by means of a
Normally Closed contact on a momentary action pushbutton.
