GENERAL INFORMATION
Congratulation on receiving your GPI fuel pump. These in-
structions will help you operate and maintain your pump.
Content covered in these instructions include 12-volt and
24-volt electric gear pumps with automatic and manual
nozzles.
NOTE: "Figures" mentioned in the text below refer to pho-
tographs in the enclosed English Owner's Manual.
Safety Instructions
Make sure all people operating and maintaining this equip-
ment know and follow all safety precautions concerning safe
handling of petroleum fuels.
To insure safe operation, all fuel transfer systems must be
properly grounded. This means a continuous metal-to-metal
contact from one component to the next including tank,
bung, pump, meter, filter, hose and nozzle. Care should be
taken to insure proper grounding during initial installation
and after any service or repair procedure.
For your future safety, please take a moment to review the
warnings below.
1. To prevent physical injury, observe all precautions
against fire or explosion when dispensing fuel. Do not
operate the system in the presence of any sources of
ignition.
2. Observe precautions against electrical shock when op-
erating the system. Do not operate any electrical equip-
ment in damp or wet locations.

3. Avoid skin contact with petroleum fuels. Use goggles,
gloves, and aprons and change saturated clothing
promptly. Wash fuel off skin promptly with soap and
water.
4. These pumps are designed for use ONLY with gasoline,
kerosene, and diesel fuel. Do NOT use this pump for
any other fluids. It could damage the pump and will void
the warranty.
5. Leaving the system running without fluids can damage
the pump. If fuel is not delivered after 15 to 20 seconds,
turn the system off and check for problems.
6. Inspect external pump wiring regularly and make sure it
is correctly attached to the battery. Use extra care when
connecting the pump to power.
7. Do not pump the tank completely dry. Contaminants
from the tank bottom might damage the pump.
8. Running the pump for more than 10 minutes with the
nozzle closed might damage the pump.
9. After running the pump for a maximum of 30 minutes,
allow it to cool for 30 minutes.
10. ALWAYS disconnect power before repairing or servic-
ing the pump. NEVER apply power to the system when
any coverplate is removed.
11. If cleaning with solvents, observe the solvent manu-
facturer's recommendations for safe use and disposal.
INSTALLATION
This pump is designed to self-prime with dry gears. Expect
suction lift as follows:
Manual Nozzle:
5.5 feet (1.7 m) with diesel
6.7 feet (2.1 m) with gasoline
Automatic Nozzle: 4.8 feet (1.5 m) with diesel
5.8 feet (1.8 m) with gasoline
If your installation requires a greater distance from the lowest
fuel level to the pump, the pump may not prime until the gears
are coated with fluid.
To coat the gears, remove the plug on the top of the pump (as
detailed in Figure 8) and pour a small quantity of motor oil into
the gear cavity. Replace the plug, turn the pump on, and
open the nozzle.
A UL Listed foot valve with pressure relief will be required to
maintain prime.
