OPERATING PRINCIPLE

The IR sensor detects water level changes and sends a signal to the Smart Monitoring System
unit which will determine whether your water level is too high or too low, switching the pump
on or off accordingly. If the water level is too low, the Smart Monitoring System unit will switch
on the pump, allowing water to be pumped into the aquarium or sump until the level is
restored, in turn, shutting off the pump.
The white float switch consists of a free moving float on a shaft. When the float reaches the
top of the shaft it will activate an auto cut off of the pump should the IR detector fail to switch
the pump off. Both an audible and visual alarm will be activated if the water level is too high or low.
An alarm will also be activated if the pump fails to run when water is required, or after 5 mins
of pump use, to minimise any large changes in water parameters or risk of flooding and also to
reduce any potential damage to the pump, if the reservoir has run dry. If you would like the
pump to run for another 5 minutes, press the reset button on the controller.

GENERAL OPERATION

1. Determine your ideal water level within the aquarium or sump.
2. Place the float switch/IR sensor in a suitable position in the aquarium or sump so that the
float could extend to its maximum height without water flooding the aquarium/sump.
3. Ensure all connections are secure (see "General Installation" above).
4. Check on a daily basis to ensure the sump or freshwater container is not running low on
water and top up as required.
5. Maintain regularly for continued, reliable operation.
6. When carrying out aquarium maintenance or
acclimating animals in the aquarium, unplug the
REEF-Fill System to prevent any unwanted activation
due to an altered aquarium/sump water level.
7. Adjust the float switch position accordingly after
maintenance and reconnect power again.
8. On a weekly basis (or more often in setups with high
detritus levels or a refugium) ensure that the IR sensor
and shaft/float are clean and free from any
algae/bacteria growth or detritus build up.
Please Note: The larger the surface area of the chamber
or aquarium the float switch is installed in, a higher volume
will be evaporated before the switch will be activated.
Ideally placed in the return pump chamber of a sump.
