Operating Thermometer
Choosing a Method:
ORAL METHOD—For children 4 years and older.

Place the probe tip well under the tongue and close mouth. Instruct
children not to bite down on the probe.
RECTAL METHOD—Commonly used for babies, young children or
when it is difficult to take an oral or underarm temperature.

Use a lubricated thermometer cover over the thermometer (see
"Using Thermometer Covers" section).

For easier insertion, position baby so his back and legs form a
90-degree (L-shaped) angle. Try placing child on your lap with his
legs down. Gently insert the probe tip no more than 1/2 inch (1.3
cm) into the rectum. Do not force the tip into the rectum if resist-
ance is encountered.
UNDERARM METHOD

Wipe underarm with a dry towel. Probe must touch skin.

Place probe tip at center of underarm and bring arm down against
the body.
Taking the Temperature:

Once you have positioned the thermometer, hold it steady while the
temperature is obtained. One long beep will be heard to indicate
that measurement is complete. Temperature will be displayed for
about one minute. FEVER ALERT NOTE: If patient has an elevated tem-
perature, reading will blink and five short beeps in ten seconds will sound.

Press the ON/OFF button to turn the thermometer off. If left on,
automatic shut off will occur in approximately one minute.
NOTE: Wait at least one minute before taking another measurement.
Using Medicine Timer:
The medicine timer is designed to track
the time passed between giving medicine
dosages to a child and to act as an alert to parents as to when next
medicine dosage should be given (based on time cycle set by parent).
It is possible to program time cycles of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 or 8 hours.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
• The timer continues to count the time elapse even if the
thermometer is turned off.
• It is not possible to turn on the timer when conducting temperature
measurement. Temperatures can be taking while timer is activated.
• If timer is stopped mid-cycle, cycle must be reset by pressing and
holding the timer button for 3 seconds. Timer will not resume
once stopped.
• When the time cycle has ended the thermometer will beep. The
display will blink the pre-set time cycle for 30 seconds.
• For example, if the timer was set to 6 hours, the image "6:00"
will blink on the display.

How to Set & Start Timer
1. Switch off the thermometer.
2. Press the "Mode" button and keep it pressed, then press the
"Timer" button and wait until the display turns on. The
interval time value will blink on the display.
3. Press the "Timer" button to scroll through time interval
options. The display will show time values between 1-8
hours (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8) and than back to 1 hour
(starting over again). See figure 1.
4. Release the "Timer" button when the desired value
appears on the display. Wait 5 seconds until the ther-
mometer was switched into timer mode. The selected
value will be shown on the display during those 5 seconds.
5. To start the timer press the "Timer" button again. The timer's display
will show the count until 9 seconds and then the display will shut
down, but the timer will keep counting.
6. To reset the timer press and hold the "Timer" button. (Press the
"Timer" button until display has been changed to "0:00").
7. To start the timer again press the "Timer" button again. The count
will start from "0:00". Ten seconds later the display will switch off.

function after initial cycle has been pre-set.

Cómo utilizar las fundas de termómetro

Utilice sobre el termómetro una funda lubricada (vea la sección "Cómo
utilizar las fundas de termómetro").

Para lograr una inserción más sencilla, ubique al bebé de manera que la
espalda y las piernas del niño formen un ángulo de 90° (en forma de L).
Intente colocar al niño boca abajo sobre su regazo. Inserte suavemente la
punta de la sonda no más de 1/2 pulgada (1.3 cm) en el recto. En caso de
encontrar resistencia a la inserción del termómetro, no fuerce la punta den-
tro del recto.
MÉTODO DEBAJO DEL BRAZO

Limpie la axila con una toalla seca. La sonda debe tocar la piel.

Coloque la punta de la sonda en el centro de la axila y presione el brazo
contra el cuerpo.
Cómo medir la temperatura:

Una vez colocado el termómetro, sosténgalo firmemente mientras mide la
temperatura. Cuando la medición finalice, se oirá un "bip" prolongado. La
medición de la temperatura aparecerá en pantalla durante 1 minuto. NOTA DE
ALERTA SOBRE LA FIEBRE: Si el paciente tiene una temperatura elevada,
la lectura destellará y se oirán cinco "bips" cortos durante 10 segundos.

Oprima el botón de ENCENDIDO/APAGADO (ON/OFF) para apagar el
termómetro. Si el termómetro queda encendido, se apagará automáticamente
en aproximadamente un minuto. NOTA: Espere al menos un minuto antes
de medir otra vez la temperatura.
Cómo utilizar el cronómetro de medicinas:
El cronómetro de medicinas está diseñado para controlar el tiempo
transcurrido entre cada dosis de medicamento administrada a un niño
y avisar a los padres cuándo deben administrarle la siguiente dosis, de
acuerdo con los ciclos de tiempo que hayan seleccionado. Es posible pro-
gramar ciclos de 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 y 8 horas.
NOTAS IMPORTANTES:
• El cronómetro continúa contando el tiempo transcurrido, aun si el ter-
mómetro está apagado.
• No es posible encender el cronómetro cuando se está tomando la temper-
atura. Sin embargo, la temperatura puede tomarse cuando el cronómetro
está activado.
• Si el cronómetro se apaga durante el ciclo, deberá reprogramarse. Para ello,
mantenga presionado el botón del cronómetro durante 3 segundos. Una vez
que se haya detenido, el cronómetro no reanudará su funcionamiento.
• Cuando el ciclo de tiempo haya transcurrido, el termómetro emitirá un
tono audible. La pantalla parpadeará y mostrará el ciclo programado
durante 30 segundos.
• Por ejemplo, si el cronómetro fue programado para 6 horas, la indi-
cación "6:00" parpadeará en la pantalla.

Cómo programar y activar el cronómetro
1. Apague el termómetro.
2. Presione el botón "Mode" (Modo) y manténgalo presionado. Luego presione
el botón "Timer" (Cronómetro) y espere hasta que la pantalla se

encienda. El tiempo de intervalo parpadeará en la pantalla.

3. Presione el botón "Timer" para leer las opciones de tiempos
de intervalo. La pantalla mostrará valores de 1 a 8 horas (1, 2, 3,
4, 5, 6, 7, 8) y luego volverá a empezar desde 1. Vea la Figura 1.
4. Suelte el botón "Timer" cuando el valor deseado se
muestre en la pantalla. Espere 5 segundos hasta que el ter-
mómetro cambie a la función de cronómetro. El valor
seleccionado se mostrará en la pantalla durante esos 5
segundos.
5. Para encender el cronómetro, presione el botón "Timer" nuevamente. La pantalla
mostrará el cronómetro contará hasta 9 segundos y la pantalla se
apagará. El cronómetro continúa contando.
6. Para reprogramar el cronómetro, mantenga presionado el botón "Timer".
(Presione el botón "Timer" hasta que la pantalla cambie a "0:00").
7. Para encender el cronómetro, presione el botón "Timer" nuevamente. Esta
comenzará desde "0:00". Diez segundos, más tarde la pantalla se apagará.
NOTA: Luego de programar el ciclo inicial, consulte la tabla de instrucciones
para utilizar la función de cronómetro.
