• For minimum protection: one detector per
floor as well as every 7.5 m in corridors and
rooms.
• For optimal protection: a detector in every
bedroom, staircase, basement and attic.
Check in each room whether the alert is audible
(especially with
doors closed), otherwise install an additional
detector in each room.
For the basement, install the smoke detector at
the bottom of the stairs.
In multi-story dwellings, install the 2nd floor
detector at the top of the stairs. Make sure that
there are no obstacles in front of the detector
(door, furniture, etc.).
If the room is attic, install the detector 1m from
the highest point of the ceiling.
CAUTION ! The smoke detector is intended for
indoor use only. It should not be installed
outdoors. It is intended only for use in private
homes and cannot be used in multi-family
residential buildings that require special
installation in accordance with applicable
standards.
Emplacements to avoid
- Stagnant air is often found under roofs and
in the corners of rooms, these locations are
contraindicated for installing a detector that
would not be able to function correctly (see
diagram opposite). It must be placed in the
air circulation area in order to have normal
operation.
- A detector installed in damp places and near
washrooms can cause unwanted trips. Install the
detector at least 3m away from the bathroom.
- To avoid unwanted triggering of the alarm,
make sure to keep the detector away from
kitchens, at least 6 meters away.
- Always remember to ventilate your rooms well
to avoid these unwanted triggers.
