CONNECTING TO THE ANCHOR POINT
The fall arrester must be connected to an anchor device point complying with
EN 795 standard or to a structural fixed point, using a connector complying with
EN 362. The anchor point should be situated above the workplace and it must
have a min. static resistance of 15 kN. The shape of the anchor point should
not let self-acting disconnection of the device.
WORKING PLACE REQUIREMENTS
It is obligatory to verify the free space required beneath the user's workplace
before each use of the PPE against falls, in order to avoid the impact with
objects or with a beneath surface during the fall arrest process. When the web-
bing of the retractable fall arrester is deflected from vertical line a pendulum
effect occurs during fall arresting. In order to minimise the pendulum effect the
webbing deviation angle from vertical shall never exceed 40°. For this purpose
the user is allowed to move laterally through a distance "I", not greater than 1/2
"V". The clearance distance below working level must be greater than 1,5 m +
lateral distance "I".
CONNECTING TO THE FULL BODYHARNESS
- The device must be connected only to the sternal attaching rings or to the
dorsal one of the full body harness.
- It is strictly forbidden to connect the fall arrester to the positioning belt rings.
- It is forbidden to add any additional element between the snap hook and the
attaching point of the full body harness.
ATTENTION: In order to avoid any accidental opening of the snap hook, al-
ways check that the gate is protected with the locking gear.
NOTES
Before using a fall arrest system, of which the retractable fall arrester is a com-
ponent, you have to check that all devices are correctly connected. They can
work without any trouble and they are certified with the obligatory standards:
- EN 353-1, EN 353-2, EN 354, EN 355, EN 360, EN 361, EN 362: for fall ar-
rest system.
- EN 795: for anchor devices.
- EN 341: for descender devices.
USE
During use, the device should be protected from a contact with oils, acids,
solvents, basics, open fire, hot metal drops and sharp edges. You should avoid
using the device in the dust laden and greasy environment.
During working on beams you should avoid twisting the working webbing with
some construction elements.
WITHDRAWN FROM USE
The PPE must be withdrawn from use immediately when:
- any doubt arises about its good condition or its right functioning
- it has been used to arrest a fall
The PPE must be sent to the device manufacturer or to his certified repre-
sentative to carry out a detailed inspection and to value its eventual repair or
destruction.
PERIODIC REVIEWS
After each 12 months of utilization the PPE must be withdrawn from use for carrying out the periodic review.
During this inspection will be established admissible time for the PPE use till next periodic review. After this period, it is strictly
forbidden to use the PPE without carrying out next periodic review. All the information concerning the periodic review must be
recorded in the Identity Card. The periodic reviews and the updating of the Identity Card can be carried out by the manufac-
turer or by his authorized representative only.
ADMISSIBLE TIME OF USE
There is no time of use limitation for the retractable fall arrester, on condition that periodic reviews are regularly carried out.
THE ESSENTIAL PRINCIPLES OF USE OF PPE AGAINST FALLS FROM A HEIGHT
- PPE shall only be used by a person trained and competent in its safe use.
- PPE must not be used by a person with medical condition that could affect the safety of the equipment user in normal and
emergency use.
- A rescue plan shall be in place to deal with any emergencies that could arise during the work.
- It is forbidden to make any alterations or additions to the PPE without the manufacturer's prior written consent.
- Any repair shall only be carried out by the equipment manufacturer or his certified representative.
- PPE shall not be used outside its limitations, or for any purpose other than that for which it is intended.
- PPE should be a personal issue item.
- Before use ensure about the compatibility of items of equipment assembled into a fall arrest system.
- Periodically check connecting and adjusting of the equipment components to avoid accidental loosening or disconnecting
of the components.
- It is forbidden to use combinations of PPE in which the safe function of any items is affected by or interferes with the safe
function of another.
- Before each use of PPE it is obligatory to carry out a pre-use check of the equipment, to ensure that it is in a serviceable
condition and operates correctly.

- During pre-use check it is necessary to inspect all elements of the equipment in respect of any damages, excessive wear,
corrosion, abrasion, cutting or incorrect acting, especially take into consideration: in full body harnesses and belts: buckles,
adjusting elements, attaching points, webbings, seams, loops; in energy absorbers: attaching loops, webbing, seams, con-
nectors; in textile lanyards or lifelines or guidelines: rope, loops, thimbles, connectors, adjusting element, splices; in steel
lanyards or lifelines or guidelines: cable, wires, clips, ferrules, loops, thimbles, connectors, adjusting elements; in retract-
able fall arresters: cable or webbing, retractor and brake proper acting, casing, energy absorber, connector; in guided type
fall arresters: body of the fall arrester, sliding function, locking gear acting, rivets and screws, connector, energy absorber;
in connectors: main body, rivets, gate, locking gear acting.
- It is essential for the safety of the user that if the product is re-sold outside the original country of destination the reseller
shall provide instructions for use, for maintenance, for periodic examination and for repair in language of the country in
which the product is to be used.
- A full body harness conformed to EN 361 is the only acceptable body holding device that can be used in a fall arrest sys-
tem.
- There are many hazards that may affect the performance of the equipment and corresponding safety precautions that have
to be observed during equipment utilization, especially:- trailing or looping of lanyards or lifelines over sharp edges; any
defects like cutting, abrasion, corrosion; climatic exposure; pendulum falls; extremes of temperature; chemical reagents;
electrical conductivity.
- PPE can be cleaned without causing adverse effect on the materials in the manufacture of the equipment. For textile prod-
ucts use mild detergents for delicate fabrics, wash by hand or in a machine and rinse in water. Plastic parts can be cleaned
only with water. When the equipment becomes wet, either from being in use or when due cleaning, it shall be allowed to dry
naturally, and shall be kept away from direct heat. In metallic products some mechanic parts (spring, pin, hinge, etc.) can
be regularly slightly lubricated to ensure better operation. Other maintenance and cleaning procedures should be adhered
to detailed instructions stated in the manual of the equipment.
- PPE must be transported in its original package.
- PPE must be stored in their original packaging, in a well-ventilated place, protected from direct light, ultraviolet degrada-
tion, damp environment, sharp edges, extreme temperatures and corrosive substances.
- The PPE must be disposed of in compliance with the local regulations in force on this subject (dump, incinerator).
- In the case of manufacturing defects this PPE will be replaced.
It is the responsibility of the user organisation to provide the IDENTITY CARD and to fill in the details required. The identity
card should be filled in before the first use of the equipment. Any information about the protective equipment (device name,
serial number, date of purchase, date of first use, user's name, information about reviews and repairs) shall be noted in the
IDENTITY CARD. Do not use the PPE without the identity card duly filled in.
