running off the rollers.
Turn the machine on to its back with the belt facing you (Pic.4).
Start the Belt Sander and observe how the sanding belt is
running. If the sanding belt is seen to move along the rollers in
either direction indicated by the arrow. (Pic.4) (4.1). it will require
centralizing before use. Using the centralizing knob (Pic.5) (5.1)
by turning it either clockwise or anti-clockwise.
Adjust the belt tracking until the sanding belt is running centrally.
Run the Sander for a short time. If the belt is still not running
centrally use the centralizing knob to fine adjust the position of
the sanding belt.
USING THE BELT SANDER
Hold the machine with both hands and assume a balanced
posture. Press in On/Off trigger and allow the motor to reach full
speed. Hold the machine parallel to the work piece. Gently bring
belt into contact with work piece.
CAUTION!
The Sander may initially snatch forwards. Resist the forwards
motion and allow the Belt Sander to move forwards at a gradual
pace. Do not use excessive, downward pressure, this may
cause the belt to snap. Keep the Belt Sander moving forwards
at an even pace. Failure to do this will result in an uneven finish.
At the end of the sanding pass lift the Belt Sander clear of the
work piece and release the On/Off switch. Wait until the belt
has stopped rotating before putting the Belt Sander down on
workbench. Failure to do this will result in the machine running
forwards.
WARNING!
Before carrying out any maintenance or adjustments the
machine must be disconnected from the mains power supply.
REPLACING THE DRIVE BELT (PICS. 6 TO 8)
Locate the drive belt cover on the side of the machine (Pic.6)
(6.1). It is secured by a cross head screw (Pic.6)(6.2). Completely
remove the screw. Remove the drive belt cover to expose the
drive belt (Pic.7) (7.1). Note the position of the belt in relation to
the pulleys. Rotate large drive pulley and at the same time ease
the drive belt from the motor pulley (Pic.7) (7.2). The drive belt
can now be completely removed. Place the new drive belt over
the large drive pulley. Offer the other end of the drive belt to the
motor pulley. Rotate the drive pulley and at the same time ease
the belt onto the motor pulley. Ensure that the new drive belt
is correctly located onto both pulleys (Pic.8) (8.1). Make sure
the drive belt rotates freely by hand and does not bind or try to
jump off the pulleys. If any problems occur please contact your
service centre. Replace the drive belt cover in reverse order to
the removal procedure.
REPLACING THE SANDING BELT (PICS. 9 TO 11)
Locate the belt tension lever (Pic.9) (9.1) and pull outwards.
Take care as the lever is under tension and may spring
back to the closed position.
Continue pulling the lever outwards until it locks in the position
shown in (Fig. 10) (10.1).
Manoeuvre the sanding belt off the rollers as shown in (Fig. 11)
(11.1).
NOTE
The Sanding belt has directional arrows printed on the inside of
the belt. These can be seen in (Pic.11) (11.2).
Sanding belts come in different grades i.e. rough through to
smooth. Select the grade required for the particular job.
Locate the sanding belt on the rollers. Make sure the sanding
belt does not touch the sides of the casing and that the arrows,
printed on the inside of the Sanding Belt point in the direction of
travel. Release the tension lever.
NOTE
Caution is required as the lever is under spring tension.
Make sure the lever closes fully. With the new sanding belt fitted
the it must be checked to ensure that it is running centrally on
the rollers (see section Before using the sander)
