Coarse filters
i
When replacing the coarse filters GF1, GF2 and
GF3, only ever use genuine items with order number
1 687 432 005.
If use is made of other filters (e.g. commercially availa-
ble fuel filters), the downstream measurement cham-
bers will be damaged by corrosion residue (e.g. rust
particles from metal filter elements) and inadequate
filter action.
!
Warranty and goodwill claims cannot be accepted in
the event of unit failure caused by the use of incor-
rect filters.
The coarse filters remove particles and aerosols from
the measurement gas. Particles are solids such as dust
and soot. Aerosols are minute droplets of liquid. These
may be deposited in the gas path and the analysis
chambers and form coatings. Ensure regular filter repla-
cement to prevent damage to the BEA 060.
Coarse filter GF1
The coarse filter GF1 removes the coarsest particles
from the gas flow. It should therefore be replaced most
frequently. Replace the coarse filter if severely con-
taminated (fault message: Poor flow) and also in the
event of HC residue. Depending on the rate of use of
the BEA 060, the filter should be replaced roughly once
a week.
Filter GF2
The coarse filter GF2 removes further particles and
aerosols from the gas flow. The greater the degree of
contamination of this coarse filter, the smaller the pore
size and the better the filter action. The water in the
exhaust gas soon causes the filter to become wet. This
moisture washes the aerosols out of the gas flow and
makes for even better particulate filtration.
i
A wet coarse filter is thus desirable!
Replace the filter if severely contaminated (fault
message: Poor flow) and in the event of HC residue.
Depending on the rate of use of the BEA 060, the filter
should be replaced roughly once a month to once a
year.
Coarse filter GF
The coarse filter GF3 is designed to protect the pumps.
The coarse filter has to be replaced once annually at
most. Here again, the filter action of a wet coarse filter
is far superior to that of a dry coarse filter.

Affix the sticker 1 689 980 296 to each new coarse
filter GF3. The applicable date and the signature of
the person performing the work must be marked on
the stickers. The date provides a reference for the
replacement interval and the signature confirms au-
thorized coarse filter replacement. Use a non water-
soluble felt-tip pen for labelling the sticker.
