g Operating Instructions
Universal Power Supply Unit for Netbooks 50 W
Congratulations on your purchase of this universal power supply unit
for notebooks and netbooks. This unit is distinguished by its reliability,
compact, lightweight design, uncompromising focus on safety and superior
efficiency. Please read these instructions carefully before use to ensure
proper and safe operation. This power supply unit has a series of integrated
protection measures that ensure maximum safety. For example:
• Input overvoltage protection
• Input undervoltage protection
• Shutdown in case of short circuit
• Shutdown in case of overheating
• Overcurrent fuse
The following items are included:
• 1 x Power supply unit
• 1 x Power cable
• 5 x Notebook adapter plugs
• 1 x Operating instructions
Getting started
1. a) Ensure that your notebook/netbook requires a power
supply of 12/19 volts (+/- 1 V).
The voltage specifications can usually be found on the original power
supply unit or in the user manual of your notebook/netbook. If in doubt,
consult the manufacturer.
Warning:
Your notebook/netbook may be damaged if it requires a different voltage
then that specified. Do not connect the power supply unit to your notebook
if you have any doubts as to the required voltage.
b) Ensure that the total power consumption of the notebook/netbook does
not exceed the power supply unit's rated output capacity of 50 W.
c) Set the required output voltage on the power supply unit. Insert the
correct coded plug in the socket provided on the power supply unit.
Yellow = 12 V, green = 19 V
To remove a coded plug from the power supply unit, we recommend using a
suitable tool, such as needle-nosed or combination pliers.
Warning:
Never remove the coded plug while the device is connected to power
and/or the notebook. The coded plugs are not fuses. Never insert fuses or
wire bridges into the power supply unit in place of the coded plugs.
2. The adaptor plugs included with the power supply unit cover most
common notebooks/netbooks from well-known manufacturers.
Please select the correct adapter using the plug on the original power sup-
ply unit. You may want to check whether the adapter fits into the notebook's
socket while the notebook is switched off and the power supply unit is NOT
connected. The plug should slide into the socket easily and fit securely
without too much play.
Warning:
Do not use force under any circumstances. This may damage the
notebook's power socket or the adapter. You can find a comprehensive and
current compatibility list at
www.hama.de/accessoryassistant/Notebook
Adapter plugs that have been lost or are missing can be obtained through our
Support Hotline. Plugs that are available will be shipped to you without charge.
3. Connect the correct adapter to the power cable's DC
connection line. This connection is protected against polarity reversal;
i.e. the adapter fits easily into the connection cable in one position only.
Therefore, it is extremely important that you never attempt to forcibly insert
the adaptor plug in the wrong position, as this can lead to the polarity being
reversed.
Warning:
If the polarity is reversed then the notebook/netbook may be damaged.
4. First connect the power supply unit with the notebook/netbook. Finally,
plug the mains plug of the power cable into the power outlet.
You can also use the USB socket of the
power supply unit to charge or operate devices that can be supplied with
power via USB, such as MP3 players, navigation
devices etc. The maximum output current of the USB sockets
is 500 mA.
