Technical background
The philosophy behind NeuLog's plug and play
technology is based on each sensor's ability to store its
own data due to an internal flash memory chip and
micro-controller in each plastic NeuLog body. This
technology allows the sensor to collect and then store
the digital data in the correct scientific units (for
o
o
example:
C,
F, Lux, %, ppm).
The sensor is pre-calibrated at the factory. The built-in
software in the logger can be upgraded at any time
using software.
The Geiger counter logger sensor measures ionizing
radiation on the basis of a Geiger-Mueller tube. It
consists of a tube filled with a low pressure inert gas and
electrodes with a potential difference between them.
When ionizing radiation passes through the tube, some
of the gas molecules are ionized. Electrodes are drawn
to the anode and positively charged ions are drawn to
the cathode. This results in a short intense pulse of
current which passes from the negative electrode to the
positive one.
The end of the tube consists of a mica window which is
protected by a screen. It allows alpha particles, beta
particles and gamma rays that do not penetrate the
tube's plastic case.
