1.
Lower the exhaust by removing (4) rubber hangers, and support the exhaust with a ratchet strap.
2.
Scrape the undercoating at the bottom of frame on both sides. Fishwire 1/2" carriage bolt and spacer through the access hole and out the forward mounting hole. Reverse pull
fishwire 1/2" carriage bolt and spacer through the access hole. See Figure 2 for fishwire methods.
3.
Raise the hitch above exhaust, feed fishwires through the attachment points on hitch brackets. (Pull back the rear fascia if needed to gain access between the fascia and exhaust
hanger.)
4.
Remove the fishwires and secure the hitch with conical washers and hex nuts.
5.
Tighten all 1/2" fasteners to 75 lb-ft. A universal joint socket may be needed to tighten the rearward fasteners on both sides.
Proper torque is needed to keep the hitch secure to the vehicle when towing.
6.
Reinstall the exhaust and remove the ratchet strap.
Note: Check hitch frequently, making sure all fasteners and ball are properly tightened. If hitch is removed, plug all holes in trunk pan or other body panels to prevent entry of water and exhaust fumes. A hitch
or ball which has been damaged should be removed and replaced. Observe safety precautions when working beneath a vehicle and wear eye protection. Do not cut access or attachment holes with a torch.
