This grab generally does not suit for plastic drums. However, a big variety of different plastic drums
exist on the market, it is possible to use the grab on certain particularly stiff drums, but in this
case you have to realize a preliminary try, in order to check in particular that the drum does not
deform, that the pads do not slide on the drum and with various loads (full / empty).
Never lift drums that are bigger or smaller than the gripping capacity of the grab used.
The minimum weight of lifting load should be equal to 5% of the clamp's WLL (e.g. if clamps WLL
is 1000 kg, then minimum weight is 50 kg). This value is given for a clamp in perfect working
order and respecting Tractel Solutions SAS conditions of use and recommendations. Consult
Tractel in case of loads with weight inferior to the minimum recommended value.
Lifting clamps are not suitable for creating permanent joints.
Working temperature: -20°C to +90°C.
Grabs for lifting and turning standard metal drums (EN ISO 15750-1 & EN ISO 15750-2). The drum can
be gripped vertically or horizontally. An indexing enables it to be held in position in both cases.
VFB03-S: this model is fitted with an open position locking system to set down the drum without having
to operate the grab.
VFB03-A: this model is fitted with an automatic device to grip and set down the drum without having to
operate the grab ; VFB03-AR model is also fitted with a reduction gear to gradually empty the drum without
effort.
1. Suspend the grab by its hook ring (1) in the open position (VFB03-S locking pawl (12) or VFB03-
A(R) automatic locking system (13/16) activated).
2. Position the grab vertically with respect to the drum.
3. Lower the grab until it is applied against the drum (jaw stops (6/7) and jaw reinforcements (38)
in contact with the top and side of the drum respectively).
4. VFB03-S: swivel the locking pawl (12) manually whilst starting off the lifting, hold it in the up
position to prevent it from locking against the fastening screw (18). Release the locking pawl (12)
making sure its claw is well above the fastening screw (18) and perform lifting.
5. VFB03-A(R): lift up the grab. Its automatic system unlocks, the grab closes on the drum. Lifting
can be performed.
6. Turning: when the drum is lifted, unlock both indexing fingers (10) by the handle (9) – 1 single
indexing finger on VFB03-AR model.
7. VFB03-S and VFB03-A: turn the drum manually, handling at each end.
8. VFB03-AR: turn the drum using the hand wheel (14).
9. Make sure that the jaw reinforcements (38) are above the drum when it has to be set down
horizontally, otherwise the grab cannot be removed.
10. When the turning is over, put the indexing finger(s) (10) back into the locked position (i.e. engaged
in a hole of the disk (8)) – 1 single indexing finger on VFB03-AR model.
11. When setting down, lower the grab until the locking system is activated (VFB03-S locking pawl
(12) on fastening screw (18) or VFB03-A(R) automatic locking system (13/16).
12. The grab is then locked in the open position and can be lifted up, ready to be used again.
Always make sure that the jaws are free from grease or oil. Degrease them regularly.
Never lift greasy or oily drums.

To lift or transport the drum, make sure that the indexing finger(s) (10) are definitely locked to
prevent any accidental turning of the drum.
