Operation
Introduction
The DCM 1 is intended for measuring Category CAT III systems and for voltages that do not ex-
ceed 600 V (AC or DC) in grounded state.
Operation
Before taking a measurement, allow the instrument to acclimatize.
The user must comply with all the usual safety regulations when using this tong meter.
The instrument can indicate gross errors if it is used in the vicinity of appliances that cause in-
terference or noise.
Only use the instrument as described in this manual, otherwise the protective equipment of
the instrument could be impaired.
Only use the instrument if the housing and tong jaws are in a faultless condition.
To prevent damage to the instrument, do not exceed the maximum input values given in the
Technical Data.
Pay attention to the function selection switch and make sure that it is set at the correct posi-
tion before each measurement.
Particular attention must be accorded to tasks performed on naked cables or busbars. (Wear
protective clothing if necessary)
Every inadvertent contact with the conductor can result in an electric shock.
Exercise caution when working with voltages of more than 60 V DC or 30 V AC RMS.
Such voltages bring the danger of an electric shock.
Before switching to other functions, the tongs must be removed from the tested circuit.
Ensure that your fingers are behind the safety ring during measurement.
To prevent incorrect measured values: Change the batteries when the
pears.
Ensure that the test instrument is fully serviceable before each measurement. Test the func-
tion using a known, functioning power source before using the instrument.
Always discharge the capacities and disconnect the test instrument from the power supply be-
fore performing diode, resistance or continuity measurements.
Insecure connections with the installed electrical contacts mean that voltage tests performed
on sockets can pose problems and produce misleading results. As such, take measures to
ensure that the lines are not live.
Exercise caution when working in the vicinity of open, accessible conductors or bus bars.
Use personal protective equipment.
Do not use a current measuring sensor where with visible wear on the tongs.
