How to assemble Moniri®

How to use Moniri® (Fig.7-11)
1. In order to show the child how the treatment is performed place the mask on your own nose and
inflate the balloon.
2. Place the face mask on the child's face covering both the nose and mouth. The child may assist
in holding the face mask in position.

Ask the child to inflate the balloon while helping to hold the mask tight to the face in order to create
an airtight seal.

When required, assist the child by squeezing the frog's

balloon each week. To reduce the balloon resistance, an adult can inflate the balloons before

Which balloon shall be used?
By changing the balloon 2 different inflation pressures can be achieved with Moniri®:
• Blue balloon (40 cm H

• In the event of absence of a clinical effect, as expressed by the child, it is still recommended to
complete the 4 week treatment cycle. Contact your physician for evaluation of the treatment.
A clinical effect can be classified as one of the following:
• Hearing or sensation of a crackling sound in one or both ears.
• Sensation of moving air or water in the ear.
• Mild transient discomfort in one or both ears (this sensation will decrease with subsequent
inflations).
• Improved hearing.
Non-verbal cues expressed by the child can also indicate an effect. These non-verbal cues can be
in the form of but not limited to:
• Placing a finger into the ear canal or desire to touch the ear.
• Abrupt change in facial expression – startled (wide eyed), smiling or even confused.
• Increased interest to use the device again.
Maintenance
If required, the face mask and components can be gently rinsed with water or a damp cloth.
Discard used balloons when they have been in use for 1 week of treatment.
Disposal should be made according to local environmental procedures.
Storage
When not in use, protect the balloons against light. Keep the balloons in the dark bag provided.
