Ventilation
All safety cabinets have an air inlet and an air outlet connection. The outlet connection (suction
side, connection diameters attached annex 1) is connected to the exhaust system. The exhaust
air is led away through ducting to discharge into the atmosphere at a non-hazardous location.
Inlet air is taken from inside the room. Please observe the valid national rules, regulations and
laws concerning the stipulated rate of air exchange and exhaust air removal.
Safety cabinets as per EN 14470-1 can also be operated without connection to a ventilation
system. (In Germany please observe the requirements of TRbF 20-L; elsewhere the relevant
national rules, regulations and laws.)
Please remember the following points for operation without connection to a ventilation system:
• The cabinet must be grounded to avoid electrostatic charges.
• The area 2.5 m around the safety cabinet up to a height of 0.5 m above floor level is
to be regarded as being a Zone 2 explosion- endangered area.
• In accordance with the relevant accident prevention regulations (BGV A8), this Zone 2
explosion- endangered area must be clearly and visibly marked with the following
hazard symbol:
The locations of the air inlet and outlet connections are shown under Annex 1 (see drawings).
10.
Grounding
In accordance with BGR 132 (D), all safety cabinets are equipped with a grounding connection
on the cabinet roof as standard. If liquids are transferred within the cabinet then the interior of
the cabinet must be additionally grounded.

Markings
Markings as per EN 14470-1 / 14470-2 / TRbF 20, Annex L / ISO 3864.

Decommissioning after a fire
Depending on the duration of the fire and the fire load, an explosive vapour-air mixture can be
formed inside any safety cabinet. Before opening the storeLAB
ignition, naked flames, etc., must be removed from a distance of 10 m around the safety
cabinet.
• Inform the fire department about the contents of the cabinet and the period mentioned
below.
• Only open the cabinet approx. 24 h after the fire has been extinguished, or wait for a
period that is at least six times as long as the duration of the fire.
• Check that the outer surface of the cabinet is cold. If it is still hand-warm then the
waiting period must be extended.
• Avoid under all circumstances the use of cutting tools that produce sparks and burning
tools.
• Ensure that suitable fire-fighting agents are at hand during the opening procedure.
• Wear suitable protective clothing!
