preparing for use
1
Put the appliance on a stable, horizontal and level surface.
2
Fill the water tank with water up to the maximum level through the water inlet (Fig. 2).
Only fill the water tank with water. Never put seasoning, oil, or other substances in the water
tank.
3
Place the drip tray on the water tank in the base (Fig. 3).
Note: Never use the appliance without the drip tray.
4
If desired, put dried or fresh herbs or spices on the flavour booster to add extra flavour to
the food to be steamed (Fig. 4).
Thyme, coriander, basil, dill, curry and tarragon are some of the exciting herbs and spices that you
can put on the flavour booster. You can combine them with garlic, caraway or horseradish to
enhance flavour without adding salt. We advise you to use 1/2 to 3tsp of dried herbs or spices. Use
more if you use fresh herbs or spices.
For suggested herbs or spices for various types of food, see the food steaming table in chapter 'Food
table and steaming tips'.
Tip: If you use ground herbs or spices, rinse the drip tray to wet the flavour booster. This prevents ground
herbs or spices from falling through the openings of the flavour booster (Fig. 5).
5
Put the food to be steamed in one or more steaming bowls and/or in the soup/rice bowl.
-
If you use more than one steaming bowl, always install the removable trays in one direction.
-
Make sure the removable trays in steam bowls 2 or 3 lock in position ('click') before use (Fig. 6).
-
Do not put too much food in the steaming bowls. Arrange the food with ample space between
the pieces to allow maximum steam flow.
-
Always place meat and poultry in the bottom steaming bowl, so that juices from raw or partially
cooked meat or poultry cannot drip onto other foods.
-
Place larger pieces of food and food that require a longer steaming time in the bottom steaming
bowl.
-
Put eggs on the egg holders to steam eggs conveniently (Fig. 7).
6
Put one or more steaming bowls on the drip tray. If you want to use the soup/rice bowl,
place it in the top steaming bowl. Make sure you place the bowls properly and that they do
not wobble (Fig. 8).
-
You do not have to use all 3 steaming bowls.
-
The steaming bowls are numbered. You find the number on the handle. The top steaming bowl
is no. 3, The middle steaming bowl is no. 2 and the bottom steaming bowl is no. 1.
-
Only stack the steaming bowls in the following order: steaming bowl 1, steaming bowl 2,
steaming bowl 3.
-
The soup/rice bowl is intended for steaming rice, soup or other liquid food. When you want to
use the soup/rice bowl, put it in the top steaming bowl.
-
If you steam large quantities of food, stir the food halfway through the steaming process. Wear
oven mitts and use a kitchen utensil with a long handle.
-
Food in the top bowl takes usually a little longer to steam than food in the lower bowls.
-
If you want to steam foods that require different steaming times, set the timer to the longest
steaming time. Put the food with the longest steaming time in bowl 1. Steam until the remaining
steaming time on the display is equal to the shortest steaming time. Then carefully remove the
lid with oven mitts and place bowl 2 containing the ingredients with the shorter steaming time
on top of bowl 1. Put the lid on bowl 2 and continue steaming until the set steaming time has
elapsed.
-
If you want to steam large size food (e.g. corn cobs, yams). You can remove the trays from steam
bowls 2 and/or 3 to maximise the space of steaming (Fig. 9).
