7.
Pull the rope with a rapid, continuous, full arm stroke. Keep a firm
grip on the starter handle. Let the rope rewind slowly.
8.
Repeat, if necessary, until engine starts. When engine starts,
move choke control gradually toward the RUN
9.
If engine falters, move choke control back toward the CHOKE
position and repeat steps 5 though 8.
10. ALWAYS keep the throttle control in the START/RUN (Rabbit)
position when operating the tiller.
TO STOP ENGINE
1.
To stop the wheels and tines, release the Forward Clutch Bail.
2.
Move throttle control lever to slow (turtle)
Whenever possible, gradually reduce engine speed before
stopping engine.
3.
Move throttle control lever to STOP
4.
Disconnect spark plug wire and ground it against the engine to
prevent accidental starting while the equipment is unattended.
TO ENGAGE DRIVE & TINES
1.
For forward motion of the wheels and power to the tines pull the
Forward Clutch Bail up against the handlebar.
2.
When tilling, relax and let the wheels pull the machine while the
tines dig. Walk slowly behind the tiller allowing it to move at its
own pace while keeping a secure grip on the handlebar with your
elbows flexed.
3.
Release the bail to stop the forward motion of wheels and tines.
TURNING THE TILLER
1.
Practice turning the tiller in a level, open area. Be very careful to
keep your feet and legs away from the tines.
2.
To begin a turn, lift the handlebars until the tines are out of the
ground and the engine and tines are balanced over the wheels.
3.
With the tiller balanced, push sideways on the handlebar to steer
in the direction of the turn. After turning, slowly lower the tines into
the soil to resume tilling.
WARNING
Be certain spark plug wire is disconnected and grounded against the
engine when performing any adjustments.
SETTING THE DEPTH
Yoke Forward
Attach the wheel yoke so that the wheels are forward (nearest to tines)
for shallow tilling, cultivating and transport by removing the clevis pin
and cotter pin. See Figure 14.
Yoke Back
Attach the wheel yoke so that the wheels are toward the rear (closest
to depth stake) for deep tilling and cultivating by removing the clevis
pin and cotter pin. See Figure 15.
Depth Stake
The depth stake acts as a brake for the tiller and controls the depth
and speed at which the machine will operate. Remove the clevis pin
and hairpin clip to raise or lower the depth stake. See Figure 16.
