7.5 Replacing the filter material

Your filter system will achieve the best results if you have the filter material replaced after 3 years at the
latest.
The filter material and filter tank are matched to each other. Only use the BEHNCKE
indicated in the bulk table, see chapter 3.4.
To replace the filter material, a service technician is imperative, as it is when
you first start up the system.
•
Backwash the filter system.
•
Switch off the system.
•
Set backwash valve to "Closed".
•
Vent the filter tank.

Allow the filter tank to run empty:

Open the lid (2) and remove the old filter material.
•
Unscrew the water funnel (6) and cover the top water distributor (7) and the ventilation pipe
(8) with a cloth or plastic bag.
•
Check the nozzle pipes (11) and ventilation pipe (8) fit properly in the distributor head.
•
Carefully fill in the new filter material (see chapter 5.5) and level the filter bed surface after
each layer. When inserting the filter material, make sure to pour in the coarse grain first and
then the fine grain.
•
After completing the filling process, remove the cloth or plastic bag.
•
Clean all the sealing surfaces on the tank rim and on the tank lid.
•
Clean the O ring (3) and the tank surface, apply assembly grease and insert correctly.
Should the O ring become smaller as a result of temperature fluctuations, it must be
pulled to the correct length. Make sure that it isn't damaged and replace it immediately if
necessary.

Close the aeration and ventilation valves as well as the untreated and clean water
pipes to the filter.
Unscrew the PVC drain nut at the base (Caution: A little water may drip from the
drain.)
Quickly screw in the drainage kit (consisting of the enclosed Gardena adapter (15.1)
and the Gardena hose connector, not enclosed) properly.
Place the hose into a sufficiently-sized floor drain and open the aeration and
ventilation valve (Caution: Over 1,000 litres of water may flow out of the tank here).
NOTE
Before each new start-up of the filter, the filter material must be backwashed
(at least 4 minutes) to rinse out any fine grain present.
