G e n e r a l i n f o r m a t i o n :
The pressure transmitter PT5N-...-FLR consists of a hybrid
film stainless steel measuring cell with a diaphragm,
installed in a stainless-steel housing. The pressure
measuring cell is fully welded. The pressure transmitter is
intended for use in flammable refrigerants operated air
conditioning and refrigeration systems as well as heat
pumps and it converts a pressure into a linear electrical
output signal.
PT5N-...-FLR is preset to the specific measuring range at
the manufactures plant. An additional setting is not
possible. The pressure transmitter can only be used in
hazardous area defined by zone 2 (category 3).
S a f e t y i n s t r u c t i o n s :
• The device may only be used for the purposes specified
in these instructions.
• If the device is not used properly, serious bodily injury
and/or considerable damage to property cannot be
excluded. This should be kept in mind particularly when
the device was in use and is replaced.
• The installation, mounting and commissioning of the
devices should be performed only by trained personnel
and should comply with the standard EN 60079-14.
• Flammable refrigerants require special handling and
care due to its flammability. Sufficient ventilation is
required during service of the system.
• Contact with rapidly expanding gases can cause
frostbite and eye damage. Proper protective equipment
(gloves, eye protection, etc.) has to be used.
• Ensure that the system is correctly labeled with applied
refrigerant type and a warning for explosion risk.
• Before opening any system make sure pressure in
system is brought to and remains at atmospheric
pressure.
• Do not release any refrigerant into the atmosphere!
• Do not exceed the specified maximum ratings for
pressure, temperature, voltage and current.
• Ensure that the system piping is grounded.
• Do not operate system before all cable connections are
completed.
• Before installation or service disconnect all voltages
from system and device.
• Observe and avoid mechanical damage of housing in
order to maintain protection class.
• Do not use any other fluid media without prior approval
of EMERSON. Use of fluids not listed could result in
change of hazard category of product and consequently
change of conformity assessment requirement for
product.
• Ensure that design, installation and operation comply
with European and national standards/regulations.
• For flammable refrigerants only use accessories
approved for it!
M o u n t i n g d i r e c t i o n :
• Mounting directions per Fig.1 in order to prevent the
collection of contaminant in pressure sensing element.
I n s t a l l a t i o n :
• Before installation compare the controller data with the
data of the name plate.
• The effects of UV radiation can cause materials to
become brittle. Protect the device from direct sunlight.
B r a z i n g : ( F i g . 2 )
• Perform the brazing joint as per EN 14324.
• Before and after brazing clean tubing and brazing joints.
• Minimize vibrations in the piping lines by appropriate
solutions.
• Use flux and silver rod with minimum of 30 % silver.
• Do not exceed the max. surface temperature of 120 °C!
P r e s s u r e T e s t :
After completion of installation, a pressure test must be
carried out as follows:
- according to EN 378.
- to maximum allowable pressure of system for other
applications.

Pressure Transmitter PT5N-...-FLR
T i g h t n e s s T e s t :
Conduct a tightness test according to EN 378-2 with
appropriate equipment and method to identify leakages
from joints and products. The allowable leakage rate must
be according to system manufacturer's specification.
Warning:
• Failure to pressure test or tightness test as
described could result in loss of refrigerant, damage
to property and/or personal injury.
• The tests must be conducted by skilled personnel
with due respect regarding the danger related to
pressure.
E l e c t r i c a l c o n n e c t i o n :
• Entire electrical connections have to comply with local
regulations.
• Ensure that the system piping is grounded (Fig. 3) so
housing of pressure transmitter has connection to
ground via brazed connection.
• NOTE: It is mandatory the electrical connection of
pressure transmitter housing to the ground (grounding).
If the connection is not arranged/established via
connection to grounded piping system, it is necessary the
electrical connection via plug and cable assembly. It is
required an ATEX certified M12 plug and cable assembly
having 3 wires (2 wires for signal output and 1 wire for
grounding).
• Connect the device to a low voltage power supply with
safe separation (SELV).
• The device should only be supplied with limited energy
according to UL 61010-1 Second Edition, Section 9.3 or
LPS in conformance with UL 60950-1 or class 2 in
compliance with UL 1310 or UL 1585.
• Use only prewired M12 Connector PT4-M60-FLR for
connection to the pressure transmitter. PT4-M60-FLR
can be used in zone 2 (category 3).
• During operation, the connector PT4-M60-FLR must be
protected by an appropriate housing against external
mechanical damage or shock (min. required protection
up to a mechanical action of 7 J - in accordance with
EN 60079-0)
• Cable end of PT4-M60-FLR must be connected to a
driver/controller
in
directives/standards
location.
If driver/controller is located out of hazard zone,
-
appropriate ATEX approved cable gland shall be used
in boundary of hazard zone and out of hazard zone.
Applicable Driver/controller must contain istrincally-
-
safe resistive circuit and insured maximum supply
voltage below 30 VDC and maximum current below
100 mA.
If the cable needs to be extended (maximum total
-
length 6 m) in hazard zone, it is mandatory to use
ATEX approved type coupling or junction box.
Wiring and mounting of plug PT4-M60-FLR:
• Ensure that the cables are mounted without tension;
always leave the cable a bit loose, but fixed.
• Ensure that cables are not mounted near sharp edges.
• Do not bend or mechanically stress the cable outlet,
maintain a clearance of 20 mm to neighboring parts.
• Allow enough space on top of pressure transmitter to
mount plug as shown in Fig. 5. The plug can be mounted
on pressure transmitter only in one position (Fig. 4
marking:
).
• Prewired plug and cable assembly is ready for
connection to the Pressure transmitter.
1. Push the plug on pins on top of the pressure
transmitter.
2. Rotate the nut one turn in clockwise direction and push
the plug.
3. Repeat this procedure until the plug is tightened
Ensure, that the plug (with cable) is correctly placed
and tighten.
• Disconnection of electrical plug from device only when
the power is switched off.
•
Ensure polarity for connection of 2-wire cable to
controller:
- +24 VDC to be connected to brown wire
- Output Signal / 0 V to be connected to white wire

S e r v i c e / M a i n t e n a n c e :
• The transmitter is maintenance-free. Defective PT5N-...-
FLR must be replaced, they cannot be repaired.
• Disconnect electrical power before service.
• Before any debrazing ensure that the flammable
refrigerant is pumped out of the system and the room
around the system is well vented so no refrigerant
left.
• According
to
EN 378-4
during
maintenance, tightness tests shall be carried out at the
relevant part of the refrigerating system. This shall apply
where appropriate following any repair.
