5. POSSIBLE PROBLEMS, CAUSES AND SOLUTIONS
PROBLEMS
Presence of algae in
– Short filtration cycles
the sand which block
the filter.
Incorrect chemical
disinfection of the water.
Low water flow
– Pump filter blocked.
– Skimmer container blocked.
– Valves half-closed.
– The sand is impregnated with
mineral deposits which are not
removed during washing.
– Low pump efficiency.
– Filter saturated.
After washing, the filter
– Defective pressure gauge.
pressure is high
– The sand in the filter forms lumps.
– Suction or discharge pipe small, or
valve half-closed.
– Water level lower than skimmer.
The filtered water is
– Incorrect chemical disinfection of the
not clear
water.
– Swimming pool very dirty.
– Damaged valve components.
The pump does not

long
– The suction pipe is long and positioned
above the level of the swimming pool.
– Swimming pool level insufficient,
and draws air.
The pump does not
– Pump seized up due to obstruction

of the turbine.
The pressure gauge
– The pump picks up air.
oscillates sharply
– Suction half-closed.
The pump loses water
– Failure in the watertightness of the
mechanical seal between the motor
part and the hydraulic part.
Noise
– Intake of air into the equipment.
– Bearing noise.
– Foreign bodies in the pump.
CAUSES
– Check the correct disinfection of the water.
– Consult your swimming pool supplier.
– Backwash the sand until the water in the inspection window is clear, usually
after 2 minutes.
– Clean.
– Clean.
– Check that they are completely open.
– Increase the frequency of washes.
– Change the sand; it could be sufficient to change the first 30 mm of the top
filtering layer.
– Clean the sand with special chemical products; consult your swimming pool
supplier.
– Check the correct turning direction.
– Suction pipes too long or suction height too high.
– The flow needed to wash the sand is insufficient.
– Check the correct sizing of the pump.
– Wash the filter.
– Replace it.
– Renew the sand in the filter.
– The pipe diameter must be 50mm.
– The valves must be completely open.
– Maintain the water level of the swimming pool.
– The pH must be between 7.2 and 7.6.
– Clean the swimming pool.
– Check the correct sand level.
– Replace the damaged parts.
– Fill the suction body up to the level of the suction connection.
– Repair the leaks.
– A check valve without spring pressure must be fitted to avoid water emptying into
the suction pipes.
– Fill the swimming pool up to half the level of the skimmer.
– The pump drive shaft must turn slightly.
– Otherwise the pump must be repaired by the technical service.
– Check the installation up to the pump suction and eliminate the leaks.
– Check that the suction valves are fully open.
– During start-up a few drops of water may emerge; after some hours of operation
the leak must cease.
– If it persists, the pump must be repaired by the technical service.
– Repair the leaks.
– The pump must be repaired by the technical service.
– Remove them as instructed by the pump maintenance manual.
