Decommissioning after a fire
Depending on the duration of the fire and the fire load, an explosive vapour-air mixture can be formed
inside any safety cabinet. Before opening the storeLAB® safety cabinet all sources of ignition, naked
flames, etc., must be removed from a distance of 10 m around the safety cabinet.
• Inform the fire department about the contents of the cabinet and the period mentioned
below.
• Only open the cabinet approx. 24 h after the fire has been extinguished, or wait for a
period that is at least six times as long as the duration of the fire.
• Check that the outer surface of the cabinet is cold. If it is still hand-warm then the
waiting period must be extended.
• Avoid under all circumstances the use of cutting tools that produce sparks and burning
tools.
• Ensure that suitable fire-fighting agents are at hand during the opening procedure.
• Wear suitable protective clothing!
