The Dolby HX Pro System
Tape sensitivity is constantly changing as a recording is being made
due to the biassing effect of high frequency audio signals. Doiby HX
Pro is a system that compensates for these undesirable fluctuations.
{t can be used in combination with any NR system while making a
recording. There is no need to set the button to ON during
playback. Furthermore, cassettes recorded using Dolby HX Pro can
be played back on decks not equipped with this system.
To use Dolby HX Pro, set the Dolby HX Pro selector button
83] to
the ON position (HX Pro indicator lights {Ii} ).
The dbx Noise Reduction System
The dbx noise reduction system dramatically
reduces noise over the
entire audible frequency
range {by more than about 30dB) and also
contributes to improved linearity for high level inputs. This permits
a recording to contain a wider dynamic range to faithfully preserve
all the realism of the original. As shown
in the diagram, the dbx NR
system compresses the input signal to 1/2 its original dynamic
range for recording. During playback, the dynamic range is then
expanded by two times: high level signals are doubled
(+5dB to
+10dB, for example) and low level signals are reduced by half
(—35dB to —70dB, for example). This system not only expands the
dynamic range, but also lowers background tape ''hiss''.

To use the dbx NR system, set the noise reduction system selecior

Using the Auto Space Button
The YJ Pause button
is normally used to cut out unwanted
portions of a program (commercials, conversations,
etc.) while
making a recording. However, this often results in a tape in which
the next song begins immediately after the last one ends. The a to
space button
[2 is provided to solve this problem. To use this
button, just press it once at the point in the recording where youl
want to enter a blank section about five seconds jong. When
the
auto space button
[82] is pressed, the play indicator flashes onand
off and tape transport continues. However, no signal is recorde}
on
the tape for a period of about five seconds. After the blank por ion
has been inserted, tape transport automatically
stops and the de ck
returns to the REC/PAUSE
standby mode. To insert a blank sec tion
of tape less than five seconds long, press the

long as you want the blank section to be. The deck will return:
