7. Dante & AES67
Dante and AES67 are protocols for network audio. Network audio makes it simple to route
hundreds of audio streams in digital format in a network through suitable ethernet cables and
switches. Network audio is beneficial to implement from small to large installations. Network
audio simplifies the setup and makes it extremely easy to control, change, and scale up an
audio system. As an added bonus, especially in large setups, it reduces cost by minimizing the
cabling needs. Unlike an analog setup, a digital audio network does not suffer from
interferences.
Information about Dante and available software can be found by visiting the Audinate website
at: https://www.audinate.com
Information about AES67 and its implementation possibilities can be found from several
software and hardware manufacturers.
7.1. Basic setup for Dante
There are many settings and functions that might be essential for your needs
in the Dante Controller that are out of scope of this short tutorial. For further
information, consult the Dante Controller user guide.
You can do audio routing in the network and manage the amplifiers network settings with the
Dante Controller software.
1. Download the software from the Audinate website.
Dante Controller software automatically discovers all Dante compatible devices that are
connected to the network.
2. Route devices in the Dante Controller matrix.
The horizontal axis shows the transmitting devices and their channels. The vertical axis
shows the receivers and their channels.
3. Show and hide channels with the plus and minus signs on the matrix.
4. Do the subscription between the devices on the matrix by marking the intersection points
between the transmitting and the receiving channels.
Successful subscription is indicated with a green check mark.
5. To bring a device to a new system, unsubscribe the device from the Device view window
on the Dante Controller software.
6. Access the device settings in the Device view window by double clicking the device
names.
7. In the device settings, you can give the devices and the channels custom names and
configure the IP-settings.
All the routing and settings will be saved on the devices.
The names, routing, and the settings are recalled after a power failure or if a device is
taken out of and reinstalled to the system.
