Open b attery cover, remove positive and negative leads f rom
battery, remove and replace with new battery. Connect
the
positive lead tothe positive side ofthe battery pack, then connect
the negative side.
NOTE: The battery you have m ay differ slightly from the one shown in
Figure 19. R efer tothe Parts L ist.
IMPORTANT:
When r eplacing
battery pack i nhandle panel, battery
pack m ust bepositioned
with the positive terminal tothe left s ide
and the negative terminal tothe right side ofpanel (Positive terminal
isclosest tothe key switch). See Figure 20. R eplacing
battery pack
incorrectly
will c ause serious damage.
4. Reattach
battery cover tobattery housing bysecuring with the
two screws removed
earlier, making sure tosnap the wire conduit
onthe leftinto place o nthe housing.
5. Fold handles back u pand tighten star k nobs.
Donot r emove the battery pack f rom the electric starter housing for
anyreason other than replacement.
Charging Battery
The battery contains corrosive
fluid and toxic material; handle with
care and keep a way f rom children. Donot p uncture,
disassemble,
mutilate orincinerate
the battery. Explosive
gases c ould b evented
during c harging ordischarging.
Use inawell ventilated
area, away
from sources ofignition.
NOTE: The special designed plug o nthe charger will o nly fitinto the
plug onthe battery box.
1. Plug t hebattery charger into the port onthe underside
ofthe
battery housing. See Figure 21.
2. Insert the battery charger plug into astandard 120 volt h ousehold
outlet. Charge battery for 8 to10hours b efore initial use. Failure
todosomay result indiminished
battery life. D onot
charge
longer than 12 hours. The batteryshouldonly needto be
chargedupon initialsetupand after any otherextendedperiodsof
non-use.
3.
After charging,disconnectchargerplugfrom outletfirst, then
disconnectchargerlead from battery.
IMPORTANT: A lwaysplug chargerlead into batterypacklead first,
and theninsert batterychargerplug into 120volt standardhousehold
outlet.Followthis orderof action everytime you chargethe battery.
Use onlythe batterychargersuppliedwith this mower.

Replacing
Fuse
The electricstartercircuitand batteryare protectedby a 40 ampere
fuse. If the fuse burnsout, theelectricstarterwill not operate.If the
unitfails to start with theelectricstarter,performthefollowingstepsto
checkthe fuse insidethe batteryhousing:

Openthe batterycover as describedin ReplacingBattery.See
Figure19.
2.
Removefuse from socketand inspectas shownin Figure22. If it
is burnedout, replacewith standardautomotive 40 amperefuse.
3.
Carefullyplacewiringback intohousing,closebatterycover,and
fold upperhandle backinto place.
NOTE:The enginecan be startedmanuallyif the fuse burnsout.
