Care & Maintenance
• The unit should be charged for 24 hours before the first use. See "CHARGING THE
DELUXE POWER BACKUP (from vehicle DC power)" section for details.
• Unplug when not in use.
• For optimum performance, store in temperatures between 32°F–110°F (0°C–43°C).
Temperatures below 45°F (7°C) and above 85°F (30°C) will require at least an
additional 10 minutes of charging before starting engine.
• The unit is water-resistant, but not waterproof. It may be damaged if exposed to
excess water (such as rain) or if submerged in water.
• The unit should be charged at least once every 12 months regardless of usage.
Most Ni-Cad batteries average over 500 charges in their life cycle.
• Please always recycle your Ni-Cad battery products.
Using the Flashlight
1. Push the master switch to the "OUTPUT" position.
2. Press the Flashlight Power Switch to turn the light on.
3. Press the same switch again to turn the light off.
4. Be sure to turn the master switch off (to the "O" position) after using the flashlight.
Charging a Vehicle Battery
Before attempting to start vehicle, this unit must be unplugged from the vehicle's 12V socket.
1. Turn off headlights and unplug all accessories in the vehicle.
2. Turn the dome light back on to aid in determining if the battery is charging.
3. If you have a car alarm, put it into "valet mode" first. Many popular car alarm
models cut off the power to the vehicle's electrical system. Deluxe Power Backup
will not work while this type of alarm is engaged.
4. Make sure the vehicle's 12V Socket is clean and free of debris.
5. Put the end of the Male-to-Male 12V car power cord with no LED light into the unit's
12V socket.
6. Put the lighted end of the Male-to-Male 12V car power cord into the vehicle's 12V
socket.
7. Push the master switch to the "OUTPUT" position.

8. The indicator light on the 12V connector will illuminate and the light or dial left on
in the vehicle should brighten. If the light or dial does not brighten, turn the ignition
key ONLY as far as the accessory position (see vehicle owner's manual). In some
vehicles, this is necessary for the 12V socket to operate.
9. If the light or dial still does not brighten, turn off the light or dial, and allow this unit
to remain connected to the 12V socket for at least 35 minutes, then remove it from
the 12V and attempt to start the vehicle again.
10. If the vehicle does not start, DO NOT attempt to start the engine more than twice.
Your battery is severely drained (below 10.5V). Call a service center or tow truck.
Using as a 12V DC Power Source
The unit's 12V DC Power Socket mimics the 12V socket of a vehicle. Any accessory you
would normally plug into your vehicle's 12V socket (cell phone, camcorder, flashlight, radio,
etc.) can be powered from the unit's 12V socket, using built-in battery as the power source.
1. Before connecting any accessory to the 12V socket, check the owner's manual of
the accessory for its polarity. This unit's 12V DC socket is center pin positive (+).
Most 12V DC accessories come with this configuration, but not all.
2. If the accessory is center pin positive, simply plug it into the 12V socket, Push the
master switch to the "OUTPUT" position and run normally.
3. For the DC accessories that are NOT center pin positive, you must use a DC to DC
adapter (not included).
Using as a 3–9V DC Power Source
With a switchable power output (3 volts, 6 volts, and 9 volts) and universal adapter plugs,
this unit can be used to power most DC accessories such as portable CD players, electronic
games, cassette recorders, etc.
1. Determine the maximum input voltage for the accessory being used. Refer to
manufacturer's instruction manual for voltage rating. The total number of batteries
(AAA, AA, C, or D cell) used by the accessory determines its voltage input.
NOTE: Some accessories use one 9V battery, which equals 9V input.
• 1 battery = 1.5V
• 3 batteries = 4.5V
• 5 batteries = 7.5V
• 2 batteries = 3V
• 4 batteries = 6V
• 6 batteries = 9V
