Additional safety warnings for chain saws
• It is recommended that a first-time user at least practice the cutting of logs on a saw log
or frame.
• Use the chainsaw only in daylight or in good artificial light.
• Never operate the chainsaw with defective guards or without the guard in place.
• Keep all nuts, bolts and screws tight to ensure that the chainsaw is always in a safe
working condition.
• Always wear protective, cut resistant clothing, eye, hands, legs and feet protection.
Adequate clothing will reduce personal injury from flying debris or accidental contact
with the saw chain.
• Always keep proper footing and balance.
• Dirt, stones, loose bark, nails, clips and wires must be removed from the tree.
• Do not operate a chainsaw on a tree, on a ladder or any other unstable support.
Operation of a chainsaw in this manner could result in serious personal injury. Operate
the chainsaw only when standing on a fixed, secure and level surface.
• Always hold a chainsaw with your right hand on a handgrip and your left hand on the
upper part of the handgrip. Always use the chainsaw with both hands. It is forbidden to
use it one-handed.
• For sawing work on hillsides, always stand in the area above the log. To keep total
control while sawing through, reduce the pressure at the end of the cut without
loosening your grip on the handles of the chainsaw. Make sure the saw chain does not
touch the ground.
• Keep all parts of the body away from the chainsaw when it is operating. Before you start
the chainsaw, make sure it does not contact anything. A moment of inattention while
operating the chainsaw can cause entanglement of your clothing or body with the saw
chain.
• When cutting a limb that is under tension, be alert for spring back. Spring loaded limb
may strike the operator leading to loss of balance or control over the chainsaw.
• After finishing the cut, wait until the chainsaw comes to a stop before removing it there.
Always switch off the chainsaw before changing between trees. Make sure the chain
cover is fitted during transport or storage.
• Do not use any accessories that are not recommended. This can result in electric shock
or fire.
Kickback and related warnings
Beware of kickback! Be careful of kickback of the
machine during work. There is danger of injury
here. You can avoid kickbacks by exercising
caution and using a correct sawing technique.
Kickback may occur when the nose of tip of the guide bar touches an object or when the
wood closes in and pinches the saw chain in the cut. Tip contact in some cases may cause
a sudden reverse reaction, kicking the guide bar up and back towards the operator.
