General safety :
-Equip your home with at least one smoke detector per floor. Keep at least one fire extinguisher in the house at
all times.
-Keep the areas around the heat source clear of paper and rubbish. Store paint, solvents and any flammable
liquids away from any heat source.
-Have a fire escape plan. Make sure everyone understands the plan and is able to carry it out in an emergency.
-If your clothes catch fire, do not run. Immediately lie down on the floor and roll over so that the flames are
smothered.
First aid for burns :
Eyes
Seek medical attention IMMEDIATELY. Do not get cream or liquid in the eyes.
Other areas
-See a doctor if the burn does not heal within 24 hours, or if the burn is larger than the palm of your hand.
-If the burn is severe, call a doctor immediately.
-If possible, wash the burn with cold water (not ice or ice water) for 10-15 minutes if the skin is intact.
-Cut and gently lift the garment covering the burn without pulling on the burn.
-Leave any clothing that may be stuck to the burn in place.
-Do not apply cream or fat to the burn.
-If the injured person has burned hands or wrists and if possible, remove jewellery (rings, watches, etc.) and
place it in the pockets.
-Do not pierce the blisters, cover the burn with light gauze.
-If the blister is punctured, apply an antibiotic ointment and cover the wound with light gauze.
Solving common problems:
The 3 most common problems associated with patio heaters are gas leaks, poor pressure and dust.
-DO NOT USE YOUR HEATER UNTIL YOU HAVE CHECKED FOR LEAKS. Leaks can occur during transport and
installation. A simple soapy water solution applied lightly to the connections will allow you to detect a possible
leak thanks to the appearance of bubbles.
-INCORRECT GAS PRESSURE. Too much gas pressure could seriously damage your appliance. If the pressure is
too low, the appliance will not work properly. If in doubt, contact your gas supplier.
-DUST. As with any appliance, regular cleaning is required to ensure that this patio heater works properly. If
the pilot light does not stay lit, your appliance needs to be cleaned. It is not usually necessary to replace the
thermocouple or the burner. Please refer to the chapter «CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE» on page 40.
