3.3.3
Preserving the membrane(s)
Before the preservation procedure, perform the flushing procedure described in the previous paragraph
§3.3.2.
1. Use the preservation liquid (
2. Stop the unit by pressing the STOP button.
3. Take 10 liters of water from the freshwater tank and fill the auxiliary reservoir (or household
bucked) and add the preservation liquid BIOCIDE (only half of the solution) and stir the solution.
If the unit is to be stored at a temperature below 0°C, 20% of
must be added to the preservation solution, during its preparation.
4. Check that the cleaning valve (V50) is in the production position (to the sea).
5. Set the inlet valve (V01) to maintenance position.
6. Make sure the flexible hose (A8) is placed in the auxiliary reservoir (See §4.9).
7. If your installation is equipped with a sandfilter, make sure its by-passed (see §3.4).
8. Open the pressure regulating valve (V49).
Cleaning position inlet valve (V01):
9. Start up the unit by pressing on the START button and check the water level in the bucket.
10. The solution is charged into the membranes; the fresh water removes the salt which is settled on
the membrane and the preservation product avoids the development of bacteria.
11. Let the machine run until the auxiliary reservoir is almost empty, then stop the unit by pressing
the STOP button.
12. When procedure is finished, shut the hull valve (V0).
NB1: In order to avoid the PRESERVATION procedure during immobilisation of the unit, operate the unit for a 10
minutes every week. It is strongly advised to flush with fresh water every time the unit is stopped, as this guarantees
the longevity of the membrane and avoids oxidation of metal parts by electrolysis.
NB2: If the unit is to be out of use for more 6 months, renew the storage operation at least once every 6 months. This
is because the solution deteriorates and loses its efficiency against bacteria development which deteriorate the
active coating of the semi-permeable membranes.
Restarting the unit after preservation, requires to perform the "First start up procedure" (§ 3.1)
When not using the watermaker for a prolonged time, it is equally important to
empty the feed pump P04 of sea water, rinse if with freshwater end let dry.
Neglecting this step could drastically reduce the lifespan of the pump due to
corrosion.
Close the hull valve (V01) before opening the screw to empty the pump.
Do not forget to prime the pump when starting back up (see § 4.9).
