Priming the low pressure pump (P04)
Priming on first commissioning or after prolonged shutdown.
Open the hull valve (V0) and the 3-way intake valve (V01) to
the PRODUCTION position.
Seawater is charged because the valve and the pump are
installed below the flotation line.
At each start after a prolonged shutdown (> 7 days), rotate the pump a
few rotations by hand to prevent the dried mechanical seal from taking
a shock.
Using a flat screwdriver, it is possible to turn the fan behind the electric
motor. Make sure that the fan (and therefore the pump) turns a few
revolutions freely. If it does so, continue commissioning.
Priming with auxiliary tank (preservation or chemical cleaning).
Place the 3-way intake valve (V01) in the
cleaning position and fill the auxiliary
tank (minimum 10L) with non-chlorinated
fresh water
Fill the cleaning pipe (A8) until water
comes out of the bleed plug, then close
the bleed plug.
The pump can be started without risk of running dry now (preservation or chemical cleaning: follow the
respective instructions).
•
Purge the low pressure pump (P04) several times to ensure
that all air has escaped. The pump is well primed when there
is a constant flow of water.
Assure positioning of the auxiliary tank
is higher than the LP pump (P04).
Make sure that the cleaning pipe (A8) is
filled to the brim, then keep the pipe
closed with your thumb.
Remove the pump bleed plug
Place it in the auxiliary tank without
creating an air trap, then leave the
pipe in the bottom of the tank (using
pliers for example)
