Maintenance and Care
Maintenance
(9.9.1)
• Check the tyre pressure approximately every 4 weeks.
Check all tyres for wear and damage.
• Check the brakes approximately every 4 weeks to make
sure that they are working properly and are easy to use.
• Tyres can be mounted in the same way as for an ordinary
bicycle tyre.
• All of the joints that are critical to the safety of your
wheelchair are fitted with self-locking nuts. Please check
every 3 months to make sure that all screw connections
are secure (see page on torque).
• Safety nuts should only be used once. After being used
several times, these nuts must be replaced.
• If your wheelchair is dirty, then please only clean it with
mild household cleaners. User only soap and water when
cleaning the seat upholstery.
• If your wheelchair should ever get wet, please dry it after
use.
• A small amount of sewing machine oil should be applied
to quick-release axles approximately every 8 weeks.
Depending on the frequency and type of use, we recom-
mend taking your wheelchair to your authorised dealer
every 6 months, to have it inspected by trained personnel.
CAUTION!
Sand and sea water (salt used for gritting in the winter)
can damage the bearings of the castors and rear wheels.
Clean the wheelchair thoroughly after exposure.
Hygiene when being reused:
When the chair is to be reused, it should be prepared
carefully, and be wiped and treated with spray disinfectant
on all surfaces which could come into contact with the
user. In doing this, you must use a disinfectant taken from
the DGHM list (German association for hygiene and micro-
biology), e.g. Antifect Liquid (Schülke & Mayr) for alcoholic
quick disinfection for medical products and medical inven-
tory when you require a quick effect.
Please pay attention to the manufacturer's instructions of
the disinfectant you are using.
In general, a safe disinfectant cannot be guaranteed on
seams. We therefore recommend, that you properly dispo-
se of seat and back slings in the case of microbacterial
contamination with active agents according to §6 infection
protection law.
Screw securement
Screw securement
(9.9.1)
The screws marked in grey must always have screw secu-
rement, if alteration are to be made, during which screws
are to be loosened.
Buffers and cables
Buffers and cables
(9.9.2)
Caution: In order to avoid any reduction in function, you
must make sure that the cables are never completely
taut.
Problem: Play in the lever
Solution: Loosen the adjustment screw (1) until the lever (2)
has no play.
Seat angle setting
Problem: The seat moves out of position, without the use of
0305/3/ST-000690xxx.EMS
the buffer release mechanism.
Cause: The Bowden cables (1) on the buffer are stretched
too tightly.
Solution: Set the Bowden cables on the adjustment screw
until the travel on the release head (2) of the cable is set to
10 mm.
Caution: Both cables must have the same setting.
Problem: No seat angle adjustment possible.
Cause: The Bowden cables are too loose.
Solution: Set the Bowden cables on the adjustment screw
until the travel on the release head (2) of the cable is set to
10 mm.
Setting the centre of gravity
Problem: The seat will not move in or out (on one side or
both sides).
Cause: Cable setting is not correct.
Solution: Check that the housing of the notched bolt is in
the correct position. To do this, release the locking nut and
remove the entyre notch mechanism. Then check the Bow-
den cable lengths. When doing this, make sure that the
cable is not buckled. The notched bolt must project from
the housing by approximately 9 mm. In addition the not-
ched bolt must be flush with the inside of the seat carriage
housing.
Caution: Protect the Bowden cable from damage (buck-
ling). Should it be buckled, then it must be replaced.
