9. Install the Optional K-8740 Drain Shroud
NOTE: The finished floor thickness when the optional drain shroud is used cannot exceed 1 1/8" (2.9cm). If the
thickness of the finished floor does exceed 1 1/8" (2.9cm), shim the whirlpool feet to provide clearance for the
drain shroud installation.
- Apply a very thin (not to exceed 1/16" [2mm]), even bead of clear silicone sealant to the two back edges of the
drain shroud. Set the drain shroud aside on a clean, soft surface until the sealant has fully cured. This sealant will
provide a cushion between the whirlpool wall and the drain shroud it is not required for a watertight seal.
- Center the drain shroud around the installed drain so the holes in the shroud tabs line up with the holes in the
underside of the rim.
- Draw the outline of the drain shroud bottom edge onto the the subfloor surface or a flat piece of cardboard. Then
measure and mark a series of closely spaced cut lines outward from the drain shroud outline. These cut lines
must be between 3/4" (2cm) and 7/8" (2.2cm) out from the drain shroud outline.
NOTE: If the finished floor cutout is less than the 3/4" (2cm) minimum, the finished floor will interfere with any
future drain shroud removal and drain access. If the finished floor cutout is more than the 7/8" (2.2cm) maximum
required, the finished floor may extend beyond the outside edges of the drain shroud base.
- Use the cut lines to establish the finished floor cut out area for the drain shroud. Cut out and install the finished
floor.
- Carefully move the drain shroud into position around the drain.
- Insert a bolt and washer up through the hole in one of the drain shroud tabs. Position a plastic spacer over the end
of the bolt, and start to thread the bolt into one of the rim holes. Repeat for the second bolt.
NOTE: Do not overtighten the bolts.
- Use a 7/16" wrench to tighten each bolt until the drain shroud is secure.
- Apply a thin bead of silicone sealant to the bottom, outside edge of the shroud base. Apply a second thin bead of
sealant close to the bottom of the inside shroud base.
- Carefully install the shroud base at the bottom of the drain shroud so there is a small, uniform gap between the
shroud and the shroud base.
- Allow the silicone sealant to fully cure before cleaning the drain shroud or shroud base.
