1. Safety
1.1 Introduction / Description
Each hose reel is tested for quality and function before leaving the factory. The wind-up spring inside the reel is equipped
with a safety plate to prevent it from falling out. Any removal or modification of safety devices as well as misuse, mis-
operating or operating out of the allowed range of application or operating data, can be hazardous for:
• the operator
• the hose reel and the connected tools / accessories
The hose reel must be installed or repaired by a qualified technician. Before installing and using the unit, familiarise your-
self with this operation manual and product. It is for your own safety!
1.2 Warning signs / Safety Precautions
In this operation manual the following symbols are being used:
WARNING!
Describes a possible dangerous situation.
Disregarding this may cause severe injury
or death.
CAUTION!
Describes a possible dangerous situation.
Disregarding this may cause injury.
1.3 Range of application
The hose reel type SA-7, SA-9, LA-14 and LA-16, is designed to be used with air only. The hose reel type LW-14 is de-
signed to be used with water. For safety reason arbitrary conversion or changing of the hose reel is prohibited. The
operation and maintenance proceduredescribed in this operation manual must be followed.
1.4 Hazards caused by accessories
Make sure that you work with the correct pressure before a tool is being connected. Make sure connected tools / accessories
cannot harm the hose. Use only approved tools and accessories and follow the respective operation manuals.
1.5 Warning Statement
WARNINGS!
Pressurised parts can blow apart suddenly during repairs, improper handling or improper usage and cause
severe injury or kill you. Always disconnect the hose reel from air source before doing any maintenance or
repair work.
• Make sure to follow the operation manual and to use the hose reel within the allowed range of application.
• Protect the hose from contact with sharp edges, flames or hot parts (eg. engine parts, exhaust pipe etc.).
• The spring tension has to be released before removing the housing.
• Do not let go of the hose-end when retracting the hose. The uncontrolled flying hose-end can harm persons or damage
nearby objects.
1.6 Safety devices
• The plastic cover protects you from internal rotating parts. It must not be disassembled when hose reel is being used or
pressurised.
• The internal safety plate mounted over the spring prevents the spring from falling out during maintenance or repairs.
These safety devices are in place to protect the user from harm. You must not change, remove or avoid them under any
circumstances.
The hose reel and the hose has to be inspected for damage before each use.
Defects must be repaired immediately. A defective hose must be replaced!
2. Installation
2.1 Introduction
The hose reel must be installed by a qualified technical person to the air-/ water supply supply. The pressure of the source
must not exeed the reels maximum allowed working pressure (see technical data section 7.1). The local laws and regula-
tions for installation must be followed.
2.2 Wall-, column- and ceiling installation
The reel must be attached to a solid wall or column etc. using two screws Ø 8 x 40 mm (5/16" x 11/2") or longer.
(Technical data / measurements see section 7.1)
2.3 Hose length, non-retractable
The non-retractable length of the hose is 2 meters (LA/LW), 1meter (SA). If this is too long for your requirements, you will
have to shorten the hose by cutting the end and reconnecting the hose fitting. You must not move the stop ball towards the
hose end, since this can cause malfunctions when retracting the hose.
2.4 Connecting to air- / water source
1. Install a coupling to the end of the retracted hose.
2. Install angular connection onto the reel axle
3. Tighten the two grub screws to fasten the connection to the axle.
Attention! Make sure the grub screws of the angular connection are gently tightened so the angular connection is still
swivelling!
4. Mount the reel to the provided place.
5. Connect the axle connection to an air- / water source.
2.5 Free wheel action (SA-reels only)
1. Pull the hose until the latch is reversing its direction.
2. Release the hose for approx. 10-20 cm and fix it tightly with the included PT screw (fig. 1).
3. Release the hose (see section 3.2). The snap-in locking is now out of action.
