Troubleshooting guide
The following guide lists problems which do not require professional servicing. If, however, the problem cannot be remedied using this
guide, contact an Onkyo authorized service center for assistance.

@ Tape is probably bad but confirm by listening to
another.
Recordings are distorted.
e Recording was done at too high a level.
e Readjust Input Level Control knob according to the
directions on page 4.
Tape squeal and skipping.
e Dirty head, pinch roller or capstan shaft.
e Cassette shell is binding tape or tape is
stretched.
e Clean (see page 8).

e Change cassette or try correcting with fast forward
and rewind.
Excessive hum during playback.
e Connecting cables not inserted firmly.
e External flux leakage from nearby amplifier.
e Insert plugs firmly.
@ Move deck away from hum source.
High frequencies too strong.
e Dolby NR encoded tape played back with
NR off.
e Incorrect equalization.
e Set the Dolby NR switches to the proper position
(Dolby B or C) for the tape being played back.
e Confirm that cassette has tape type detection holes.
No high frequency sounds.
e Non-Dolby NR encoded tape played back
with Dolby B or C NR on.
e Head has become dirty.
@ Tape was recorded with incorrect Accubias
setting.
e Set the Dolby NR switches to the proper position for
the tape being played back.
e Clean (see page 8).
e Rerecord with correct Accubias setting (see page 5
)
Timer recording fails to operate.
e Erasure prevention tabs removed.
e Change cassette or cover tab hole with cellophane
tape.
The AMCS function does not
operate properly.
e The silent sections between selections are
too short or noisy.
e Use a cassette with sufficiently silent sections of suf-
ficient length between selections.
Deck does not operate properly.
@ Tape transport control microcomputer has
been exposed to interference from power
supply or static electricity.
e Switch power off for about ten seconds.
Front panel controls function but .
remote control transmitter does
not.
e No batteries in remote control transmitter.
e Batteries have worn out.
e Insert batteries.
