Before start cleaning, adjustment, repair and maintenance
tasks:
▪ Place the wood shredder in a solid and flat surface;
▪ Turn off the combustion engine and let it cool down;
▪ Remove the spark plug cap.
Keep the spark plug cap away from the spark plug
itself, as an inadvertent ignition spark can cause
burns or electric shocks. Unintentional contact of the spark
plug with the spark plug cap can cause the combustion
engine to start unintentionally.
To clean or service the wood shredder, just lean it
backwards. If the machine is turned sideways or forward,
damage to the combustion engine and other parts of the
wood shredder may occur, which may cause costly repairs.
Allow the wood shredder to cool down in particular
before carrying out maintenance work on the drive
system, combustion engine, exhaust manifold and muffler.
Temperatures of 80°C or even higher can be reached.
Direct contact with engine oil can be dangerous, moreover,
engine oil must not be spilled.
VITO recommends leaving the filling or changing of the
engine oil to a specialist.
Frequently check the equipment, especially before storage
(for example, before the winter period), regarding wear and
damages.
For safety reasons, replace worn out or damaged parts
immediately so the unit is always in perfect operating
conditions.
Cleaning:
The wood shredder must be carefully cleaned after each
use. Remove the debris inlaid with a wooden splint. Clean
the base using a brush and water.
Do not use aggressive cleaning products. These products
may damage plastics and metals, compromising the safe
operation of the wood shredder.
The shredder can be cleaned with a pressure washer or a
steam cleaner. Keep a minimum distance of 1 metre and
never direct the water jets directly at the support points or
the seals.
In order to avoid fire hazards, the ventilation slots, radiator
and exhaust area must be free from traces of wood or
rubbish.
Maintenance:
Only maintenance works described in this instruction
manual may be carried out, all other works must be
performed by an official dealer.
If you lack the necessary knowledge and resources, you
should always ask an official dealer.
Use only VITO-approved accessories for this petrol wood
shredder or technically identical parts. Failure to do so may
result in personal injuries or damages to the petrol wood
shredder. If necessary, they should be replaced by an
official dealer.
For safety reasons, the fuel system components (hose, tap,
tank, tank cap and couplings) should be inspected
regularly regarding damage and leaks. If necessary, they
should be replaced by an official dealer.
Always keep warning and information stickers clean and
legible.
Keep all nuts and bolts well tightened in order to ensure a
safe operation.
If any components or safety devices are removed for
maintenance
works,
immediately.
When replacing the blades, pay attention to the type of
blades and if they match. Only use VITO-authorized blades.
Allow the combustion engine to cool down before putting
the equipment in a closed compartment.
Never store the wood shredder with petrol in the tank inside
a building. Petrol vapours may come into contact with
flames or sparks and ignite.
Store the petrol wood shredder in a dry area, with the fuel
tank empty in a well-ventilated location. If you want to
empty the tank, for example before the winter period, the
fuel tank should only be emptied outdoors.
Clean the machine thoroughly before storage, especially on
winter. Store the wood shredder in a good operating
condition. Store the machine with the spark plug cap
removed.
Ensure that the petrol wood shredder is protected against
misuse (e.g., by children).
