Clamp evenly in all three holes with the chuck
key 14.
Caution! The chuck may be very hot:
During longer working periods, especially
when impact drilling, the chuck can become
very hot. In this case we recommend wearing
protective gloves.
Screwdriver Tools
(Accessory – see figure
When using screwdriver bits 16, a bit holder 17
should always be used. Use only the screwdriver
bits that fit the screw head.
For driving screws, position the selector switch 2
to the symbol "Drilling and Driving".
Initial Operation
Observe correct mains voltage: The voltage of
the power source must agree with the voltage
specified on the nameplate of the machine.
Equipment marked with 230 V can also be con-
nected to 220 V.
Switching On and Off
To start the machine, press the On/Off switch 7
and keep it depressed.

GSB 20-2 RET: The machine runs
with variable speed between 0 and
maximum, depending on the pres-
sure applied to the On/Off switch 7.
Light pressure results in a low rota-
tional speed thus allowing smooth,
controlled starts. Do not strain the
machine so heavily that it comes to
a standstill.
To lock on, push and hold the On/Off switch 7
and press the lock-on button 9.
To switch off the machine, release the On/Off
switch 7 or push and release it then.

Overload Clutch (Anti-Rotation)
In order to limit dangerous reaction
torque, the machine is equipped
with a safety clutch (Anti-Rotation).
Nonetheless, high reaction torque can occur
when the tool insert suddenly jams. Always hold
the machine tightly with both hands and en-
sure secure footing.
When the clutch disengages, the drilling spindle
comes to a stop and the ratchet sound of the
clutch disengaging is heard. Switch off the ma-
chine immediately when the clutch disengages.
In the first gear, the clutch disengages at approx.
33 Nm; in second gear at approx. 13 Nm.
Reversing the Rotational Direction
(GSB 20-2 RE/GSB 20-2 RCE/
GSB 20-2 RET)
Operate the rotational direction switch 5
only at a standstill.
The rotation direction of the machine can be re-
versed with the rotational direction switch 5
(when the On/Off switch 7 is actuated, the rota-
tional direction switch 5 is locked).
Right Rotation (see figure
Press the rotational direction switch downward
on the left side and at the same time upward on
the right side (for drilling, impact drilling, driving
screws, etc.).
Left Rotation (see figure
Press the rotational direction switch upward on
the left side and at the same time downward on
the right side (for loosening and unscrewing
screws and nuts).
Gear Selection, Mechanical
Two speed ranges can be preselected with the
gear selector 10:
Speed I: Lower rpm range
Speed II: Higher rpm range
The gears can be switched when the machine is
running or at standstill. However, this should not
be carried out at full load or maximum speed.
