4. To begin the melt cycle press the «START» key.
The pump will stop and the unit will heat at
maximum rate to the pre-programmed plateau
temperature. The screen will show "HEATING"
along with the current temperature of the
block. When the plateau temperature is
reached an alarm will sound and the SMP3 will
maintain that temperature. The display
changes to "STEADY" followed by the current
temperature.
5. To continue heating at the pre-programmed
ramping rate, press «START». The display will
change to;
RAMPING 200.4°C_
The temperature displayed is the current. The
block is now being heated at the pre-
programmed ramp rate.
N.B. The maximum temperature the block
will be reach in this phase is 10°C above the
plateau temperature plus 20 times the
programmed rate.
6. While the SMP3 is in the ramping mode,
temperatures can be recorded via the «STORE
SAMPLE» keys (see below).
When the melt has occurred press «STOP». The
display will change to "COOLING TO AMBIENT" and
the cooling pump can be heard. Now the stored
temperatures can be viewed (see below).
7. If another test at the current plateau
temperature and ramping rate is to be carried
out, pressing «START» will tell the SMP3 to
cool to the plateau temperature. The screen
will alternate between;
COOLING TO PLAT.
COOLING 199.6°C_
Once the plateau temperature has been reached
the display will change to "STEADY" and the
alarm will sound.
Begin ramping by pressing «START».
- If another run with different parameters is
required, select a new plateau temperature and
ramping rate as described above. Press
«START» to reach the new plateau
temperature.
Recording temperatures
- Temperatures are recorded via the «STORE
SAMPLE» keys. There are three memories (one
for each tube) and each memory can hold
eight temperature values.
N.B. If a ninth value is recorded an alarm will
sound to indicate that the memory is full.
- Temperature values can be recorded in the
"RAMPING" mode by pressing the appropriate
«STORE SAMPLE» key.
Viewing stored temperatures
- The stored value(s) can be viewed during the
"COOLING TO AMBIENT" mode. When one of the
«STORE SAMPLE» keys is pressed the screen
will show;
STO1-1 202.1°C_
Here «STORE SAMPLE 1» has been pressed and
the first temperature inputted was 202.1°C.
Pressing the «▲» key will show the other seven
inputs in turn. Pressing «STOP» will return to the
"COOLING TO AMBIENT" mode.
N.B. Temperature values remain in the
memory until another melt cycle is initiated
by pressing «START».
