Hazards
During use, always comply with the cleanliness and safety rules specified in these instructions for correct use of
oxygen and medical gases.
Failure to comply with the instructions provided in this manual may cause serious damage/injury or even death.
Always keep the valve at a distance from sources of heat (fire, cigarettes, naked flames, etc.) and from highly
flammable materials. The flow of oxygen or of oxygen mixes MUST NEVER FOR ANY REASON be exposed to
sources of heat, sparks or flames. Oxygen and its mixes may be very dangerous. Although not flammable, oxygen
supports combustion. The material is not flammable in air but may burn in the presence of pure oxygen at high
pressure. An increase in oxygen concentration in the environment from a normal 21% to 25% is sufficient to cause
ignition of all materials present in the case of a spark, flame or source of heat.
Do not lubricate any part of the valve with oil and/or grease and do not handle the valve with oily or greasy
hands, fingers or tools! Combustion hazard!
The cylinder must be protected against sharp impacts.
Throughout its period of use, the valve must be protected against dust, water and other adverse environmental
conditions that could impair its quality, reliability and safety.
Keep the valve out of the reach of children.
Fill the cylinder equipped with valve in a well-ventilated environment
The valve must be used only if in good condition. If you find or suspect that the valve is faulty, interrupt use immediately and
return the valve to the manufacturer. Comply with regulations, the prescriptions of medical gas Directives, safety and accident
prevention and environment protection rules at all times.
A doctor's prescription is required for any type of home or hospital treatment with medical gases except in urgent
cases and emergencies when oxygen may be administered by health sector operators (.e.g. ambulance
personnel).
To guarantee patient safety, check valve compatibility with medical devices and accessories connected to these.
MEDICAL SURVEILLANCE – Recording of valve traceability data
In accordance with Directives 93/42/EEC; 2007/47/EC, any accidents or "near misses" with possible consequences for personal
health and safety must be reported to the Local Authorities in accordance with the national surveillance system which requires
immediate notification also to the manufacturer of the medical device.
For the purpose of any recall, Pergola s.r.l. recommends that owner and users maintain an updated register of the data necessary
for traceability.

The valve
The valve is the offshoot of a project designed to combine various functions that:
•
facilitate use of the valve.
•
cater to the patient's treatment requirements.
•
facilitate cylinder filling operations by the manufacturer or gas retailer.
•
guarantee compliance with the applicable national and Community safety requirements.
The Pergola valve is designed exclusively to be fitted permanently on the cylinder. The valve forms a single
body with the cylinder; therefore, maintenance must be provided by the owner of the cylinder.
The valve comprises: (see Figure 1)
1)
Threaded attachment for assembly on the cylinder. The thread may be conical or cylindrical and dimensions may vary in
accordance with reference regulations (See "CONNECTIONS").
2)
Filter.
3)
Excess flow device (optional). This device may be present in the valve stem and provides extra safety in the case of
breakage of the valve or part of this and/or complete detachment of the valve from the cylinder.
If this device is installed, blow-down of the cylinder through the filling port is not permitted.
4)
On/off valve.
High pressure rupture disc (optional).
5)
6)
Residual pressure valve (optional). Prevents complete emptying of the cylinder by maintaining a minimum positive
pressure in the cylinder to avoid contamination of cylinder content. This device is bypassed during filling.
7)
Filling port. The valve is equipped with a specific filling port which varies according to national regulations.
