Assembly
Before any work on the machine (e. g.,
maintenance, tool change, etc.) as well as
during transport and storage, set the rota-
tional direction switch to the centre posi-
tion. Unintentional actuation of the On/Off
switch can lead to injuries.

Battery Charging

A battery that is new or has not been used for a
longer period does not develop its full capacity
until after approx. 5 charging/discharging cy-
cles.
To remove the battery 11 press the unlocking
buttons 10 and pull out the battery downwards.
Do not exert any force. (see figure A)
The battery is equipped with a NTC temperature
control which allows charging only within a tem-
perature range of between 0 °C and 45 °C. A
long battery service life is achieved in this man-
ner.
A significantly reduced working period after
charging indicates that the battery is used and
must be replaced.
Observe the notes for disposal.
Auxiliary Hooks for Locking of Battery
(see figure A)
Due to wear of the battery locking hooks or in-
complete inserting of the battery 11 into the
battery port, the battery can engage in the aux-
iliary hooks 14. Should the auxiliary hooks 14 on
the power tool or on the battery be damaged,
then neither the power tool nor the battery may
continue to be used, but are to be sent in to an
authorised after-sales service centre for Bosch
power tools.

Auxiliary Handle

Operate your machine only with the auxilia-
ry handle 12.
The auxiliary handle 12 can be set to any posi-
tion for a secure and low-fatigue working pos-
ture.
Turn the bottom part of the auxiliary handle 12
in counterclockwise direction and swivel the
auxiliary handle 12 to the desired position. Then
retighten the bottom part of the auxiliary handle
12 by turning in clockwise direction.
The clamping band 5 of the auxiliary handle
must be seated in the corresponding groove.
Adjusting the Drilling Depth (see figure B)
The required drilling depth X can be set with the
depth stop 13.
Press the button for the depth stop adjustment
6 and insert the depth stop into the auxiliary
handle 12.
Insert the SDS-plus drilling tool to the stop into
the SDS-plus tool holder 1. Otherwise, the mov-
ability of the SDS-plus drilling tool can lead to
incorrect adjustment of the drilling depth.
Pull out the depth stop until the distance be-
tween the tip of the drill bit and the tip of the
depth stop correspond with the desired drilling
depth X.
The knurled surface of the depth stop 13 must
face upward.
Selecting the Tool Holder
For hammer drilling, SDS-plus drilling tools that
can be inserted into the SDS-plus tool holder 1
are required.
For drilling without impact in wood, metal, ce-
ramic and plastic, use non-SDS-plus drilling
tools (e. g. drill bits with cylindrical shank). A
keyless or a key type drill chuck is required for
such drilling tools.
Note: Do not use drilling tools without SDS-plus
for hammer drilling! Drilling tools without SDS-
plus as well as the tool holder are damaged
when used for hammer drilling.
GBH 24 VF: The SDS-plus tool holder 1 can eas-
ily be exchanged against the keyless replace-
ment chuck 18 provided.
