Conducting Tests

Preparations and Safety Measures

Before conducting any test, follow the
safety instructions. Before using the
instrument, always perform a function
test.
The test probe covers (13) can be
removed before the tests. To do this,
pull them forwards off the test probes.
The use of these covers (13) may be
required by national regulations or
directives.
Switching on the Instrument/
Auto Power Off:
If the pushbutton (12) is pressed, the instru-
ment can be switched on without applying
any voltage to the test probes.
If no voltage is applied to the test probes
and no continuity is detected, the instru-
ment automatically switches off again after
approx. 8 s.
Function Test/Self-Test:
Switch on instrument and connect test
probes. The LED for continuity test Rx
(7) must be lit.
If this LED is not lit, the batteries must
be changed (VP-710 only).
If the battery symbol is indicated on the
display, the batteries must be changed
(VP-720 only).
Before and after use, always test the
voltage testers on a known voltage
source.
The voltage testers must no longer be
used if one or more functions fail or if
no functionality is indicated.
Remove discharged batteries from the
instrument to prevent any leaks. (VP-
710, VP-720 only)
The voltage display functions even
without batteries at voltages >24 V
(display via LED row)
The voltage testers VP-700, VP-710, VP-
720 feature a connectable load which
trips a 10 mA or 30 mA RCD/FI earth
leakage circuit breaker.
For voltage tests (L against PE) in
systems with RCD/FI earth leakage
circuit breaker, the RCD/FI earth leak-
age circuit breaker can be tripped when
the two pushbuttons (11) are pressed.

Voltage Test

The following AC/DC voltage steps can
be displayed without pressing the two
pushbuttons: 24V, 50 V, 120 V, 230 V,
400 V, 690 V.
When both pushbuttons (11) are pressed, a
lower internal resistance is switched to sup-
press inductive and capacitive voltages (load
test). At the same time the +12 V and -12 V
display is also activated
The duration of the test with lower internal
instrument resistance (load test) depends on
the level of the voltage to be measured.
