6. Notes on using infrared spot lights
Infrared spot lights can only be used for lighting in combination with infrared-compatible B/W
and day/night cameras.
Using IR spot lights can lead to the displacement of the camera's focus point (focus shift). IR-
corrected lenses can be used to rectify this.
The range of the infra red spot light is dependent upon the IR sensitivity of the camera model
used. The specified ranges of the illuminators are based on a camera light sensitivity of
0.1 lux.
Objects can appear unusual in IR light. For example, while in daylight a green meadow
appears rather dark, when infrared illumination is used at night, green light appears almost
white.
As with all lighting, the principle also applies that when using infrared illumination, the lighting
should be positioned as close as possible to the area for monitoring. The direction of
illumination needs to be adjusted to the camera's viewing direction here, in order to prevent
glare.
The infra red spot light should be cleaned at regular intervals (at least once every three
months) as luminosity is reduced by a dirty lens, and the cooling effect of the radiator can also
be impacted. Do not use sharp objects or alcohol when cleaning.
