Power Tool Use and Care
Do not force the power tool. Use the correct tool for your application. The correct power tool will do the job better and safer at the rate
for which it is designed.
Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on and off. Any power tool that cannot be controlled by the switch is dangerous
and must be repaired.
Disconnect the plug from the power source before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing power tools. Such
preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the power tool accidentally.
Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the power tool or these instructions to
operate the power tool. Power tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users.
Maintain power tools. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts and any other condition that may
affect the power tools operation. If damaged, have the power tool repaired before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly
maintained power tools.
Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained power tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to bind and are easier to
control.
Use the power tool, accessories and tool bits etc., in accordance with these instructions and in the manner intended for the
particular type of power tool, taking into account the working conditions and the work to be performed. Use of the power tool for
operations different from those intended could result in a hazardous situation.
Use clamps or other practical way to secure and support the workpiece to a stable platform. Holding the work by hand or against your
body is unstable and may lead to loss of control.
Maintain tools with care. Keep handles clean and dry to maintain control.
Use only accessories that are recommended by Ingersoll Rand for your model. Accessories that may be suitable for one tool, may
become hazardous when used on another tool.
When wearing gloves always be sure that the gloves will not prevent the throttle mechanism from being released. Personal injury
may result.
Do not remove any labels. Replace any damaged label. Labels provide information required for safe use of the product.
Service
Tool service must be performed only by qualified repair personnel. Service or maintenance performed by unqualified personnel could
result in a risk of injury. Consult your nearest Ingersoll Rand Authorized Servicenter.
When servicing a tool, use only genuine Ingersoll Rand replacement parts and follow all Maintenance Instructions. Use of
unauthorized parts or failure to follow Maintenance Instructions may create a risk of electric shock or injury.
Safety Instructions for use of all Portable Electric Tools
Grounded Tools - Grounding Instructions
These tool must be grounded while in use to protect the operator from electric shock. The tools are equipped with a three-conductor cord and
three-prong grounding-type plug to fit the proper grounding-type receptacle. The green (or green and yellow) conductor in the cord is the
grounding wire. Never connect the green (or green and yellow) wire to a live terminal. If your unit is for use on less than 150 V, it has a plug that
looks like that shown in Figure A. If it is for use on 150 to 250 volts, it has a plug that looks like Figure C. An adapter (see Figure B) is available for
connecting Figure A-type plugs to two-prong receptacle. The green colored rigid grounding strap must be connected to a permanent ground
such as to a properly grounded outlet box. No adapter is available for figure C plugs.
(Dwg. TPD1870)
Note: Use of three-prong adapters in Canada is prohibited by the Canadian Electric Code.
Note: For safe use of adapters the outlet box must be grounded. If there is any doubt, have a qualified electrician check connections.
For grounded tools use only three-wire extension cords which have three-prong grounding-type plugs and three-pole receptacles which
accept the tools plug. Replace or repair damaged cords.
If an extension cord is to be used outdoors, only cords with the suffix W-A following the cord type designation shall be used (example - SJTW-A)
to indicate it is acceptable for outdoor use.
Inspect extension cords for loose or exposed wires and damaged insulation. make needed repairs or replacement before use.
