Each time you record a message, the device automatically generates a
recording number which is 1 higher than the one previously recorded in the
selected file. This number is displayed during recording.

If no more memory space is available, FU" appears in the display. Erase old
recordings already played back in order to create space for new
recordings. Refer to Page 32 to learn how to erase messages.

The recording volume is automatically set by the device (audio level); it
cannot be adjusted manually.

Microphone

You can connect an external microphone to the MIC jack on the device. The
jack is labelled with a microphone symbol and is located on the top of the de-
vice. As soon as an external microphone is connected, the integrated micro-
phone is deactivated.
Voice−activated recording (VOX)

The device is equipped with an automatic voice detection feature (VOX). If
the function is activated, the device only starts to record when you speak. If
you pause, the device interrupts recording and only resumes when you start
speaking again.
Proceed as follows to activate the
VOX feature:
Start a recording by pressing the
REC/STOP button
Page 26, Recording.
Then press the Play/Stop button
in the display.
The VOX function can then be switched on and off, as required, by repeatedly
pressing the Play/Stop button
If VOX is activated, the device begins recording as soon as you start to
speak. If the device interrupts recording because nothing is being said, the
